5.1 Flac doesn't adapt to Stereo Output

Hello and thanks in adance for any help you can offer. I’m using Audirvana 3.5.3 (Win10 OS and WASAPI driver) with a USB DAC (Presonus Studio 26c). Stereo FLACs work and sound fantastic. Yet, when I play a 5.1 FLAC Audirvana is unable to “downmix” from 5.1 to 2.1.

If I close Audirvana and play the same 5.1 FLAC on a free player such VLC or Groove, it plays “normal” with all channels audible. Am I missing something in the preferences perhaps?

Thanks again,
Lokust

Hello @Lokust, Can you send me a copy of the “Debug Info” while you are trying to listen to your music? You can get it in Audirvana Settings>General>Debug Info

Note: By clicking on the Debug Info Audirvana button automatically copies all its content, all you have to do is paste it in response to this message

Hi Damien,
Thanks for your quick reply. Here’s the debug info:

Just for fun, I installed jriver and played a few 5.1 tracks - jriver recognizes the 6 channels and remarks that playback must ensue in 2 channel mode. Playback is then quite OK. Am thinking that Audirvana might not be recognizing the “format”. Or it could be something completely different
Thanks,
Lokust

Audirvana can’t recognize your DAC as 5.1 capable so it won’t use your file as it is.

Yes, but shouldn’t it downmix accordingly? Not that big of a deal, as one doesn’t normally play 5.1 material on a two channel system. But sense it’s possible on other types of audio software, even freeware, will Audirvana be able to do that in the future?

Thanks again for your time!
Lokust

For the moment this is not a planned feature for the future of Audirvana. If you want you can create a topic in the user voice category here: https://community.audirvana.com/c/user-voice-audirvana/50

OK, thanks again!

When I rip SACDs or DVDs I always rip both the 2.0 and 5.1 tracks separately. The 2.0 for Audirvana of course.

Good idea Graham. I’ll definitely do that in the future. Though most of my 5.1 material is on BD, so they’re a bit troublesome to rip - no rest for the wicked, as they say.
