After updating to 3.5.5 (Win 10), Tidal won't play MQA tracks in WASAPI mode

Dear all,

My DAC is SMSL M500, it worked very well before the update, it could fully unfold the MQA tracks and keep the exact original bit depth in WASAPI mode (ASIO mode won’t do this, it will only output 32 bit). But after updated to V.3.5.5, I find when I start playing the MQA tracks with WASAPI mode, I got the error message as the picture shows below, and the music will be full of harsh noise of click and pops, I have to restart the App and switch to ASIO mode to listen to MQA tracks. But my DAC can only output 32 bit music under the mode, it’s not bit perfect, so I really want to get the normal WASAPI mode back again.

Thanks.

I’m having the exact same issue with MQA files after upgrading to 3.5.5 in WASAPI only. Exactly the same with the clicks and pops too. In ASIO works fine. Both WASAPI and ASIO work fine for HiFi files. My DAC is a Meridian Explorer2 decoder.

Oh, love the new Metheny record!

Similar problem: Win 10 laptop, Cobalt dac, after upgrade MQA unplayable, switch to Asio4all and playback is glitchy.

I’ve resorted to Foobar2000 again. Any chance of a fix please?

It’s not DAC or TIDAL specific. Thank you for reporting this as I have the very same issue with a DragonFly USB DAC and locally stored FLAC files too.

I’m having the exact same issue after upgrading to 3.5.5.
And I’ve tried it with different MQA DACs.
It’s definitely a software issue.
Hopefully Audirvana is gonna fix it soon :frowning:

I am having the same issues with Windows 10 laptop and Cobalt (playing MQA tracks via Tidal) The MQA tracks no longer play properly since the software update. Hopefully Audirvana will get this software glitch sorted soon.

I am having the same issues with Windows 10 PC. When I play MQA files, it also shows “Audirvana has exited unexpectedly”. Hopefully Audirvana will solve this software problem soon.

Looking forward to it Damien.

Any news on the update to repair the MQA playback issue after the last update? I can’t play MQA at all at this point only get garbled noise.

Thanks

For now I manually set the DAC to be non MQA. So Audirvana does the first “unfold” which results in a 2x sample rate version. Going by the MQA marketing that is missing the DAC specific corrections.

I never got the chance to properly try out MQA vs regular FLAC files as update which broke MQA playback came pretty early in my testing

I can use ASIO drivers on my Meridian Explorer2 and iFi Nano Black Label and get the full MQA unfold, albeit with an up sampled bit rate (32). Don’t know if your DAC has ASIO drivers but you could try if it does. That said, looking forward to Damien getting the fix done with the new update as I’d rather use WASAPI for MQA since it leaves the bit rate alone on my two MQA DACs.

Any movement on the update?

Just installed the update now the program has crashed and will not open.

I have the same situation. I can’t open Audirvana. It’s the worst.

Hi all, I canceled my Tidal subscription this month and logged out my Tidal account in Audirvana before the 3.5.6 update, so I only have Qobuz associated with Audirvana currently. After the update, my Auidirvana works with no issues. It seems the crash is caused by the Tidal account authentication problem, try to log out and log in again if you can.

Exactly the same thing for me. Can’t even open the app anymore.

It’s been super annoying to have all these issues lately…

guys,i have same problem,and then i reinstall the audirvana,is works,apps can run,but can not login tidal again…oqbuz is normal…

Hello everyone, we made an update regarding this issue earlier this morning, you can now update Audirvana to the latest version. It will be 3.5.8 since we made a hot fix of Tidal Playlist duplicate.
