It seems Audirvana 3.5 and Origin have some issues with macOS 15 Sequoia. It appears that they do not “see” the network. It could well be a problem with macOS 15 and not viceversa, by the way. Anyone has news about this?
Many thanks. In my case, both AO and 3.5 (I have both) do not “see” the network therefore I cannot stream anything from my Atoll ST300. Interestingly, friends using Roon have the same problem.
When you get this issue you need to;
- Close Audirvana
- Go to system settings and scroll down to Privacy & Security
- Scroll down to the “Local Network” in the main window.
- In local network you should see an entry called “Audirvana” and the toggle should be set to on.
- Turn the toggle off and back on. (See screenshot)
- Re-open Audirvana and your local network playback devices should re-appear when opening Audirvana (I have Studio if you have AO and 3.5 you should see two entries).
This always brings back the local network endpoints for me.
In my case this is most often caused by having macOS internal firewall turned on in system settings/network. If you have this turned on and you have another internet firewall in your home network do not turn on and rely on your routers firewall or use something like Intego NetBarrier instead (the latest version of Netbarrier does reflect the deprecations made in “filters” and I can confirm does work without issue, other security software vendors I can not vouch for). Second screenshot.
Yes Sequoia networking has major issues which are widespread and discussed on all macOS forums. Apple is aware of the situation. As their focus is on 15.1 and getting Apple Intelligence features rolled out I am not sure whether there is an iminent patch. Not Apple’s finest hour, In the desire to work on Apple Intelligence they rushed 15.0 out of the door without enough QA/QC. The issues were reported during the beta process after changes made to networking in Beta 8.
Thanks for your reply! Unfortunately it does not work. Uninstalled and reinstalled AO and 3.5 not to avail. Still unable to stream music because the network endpoint has disappeared.
By the way, it must be a problem between Audirvana Origin and 3.5 and macOS 15 because JRiver works perfectly.
Both Audirvana and JRiver use the same open source network protocol. So why the first does not work and the second does?
It seems that I am the only Audirvana customer to experience this problem. I am surprised and worried …
If you google macOS Sequoia network issues you should get a feel for the issues people are having. I installed Roon during the RC and had exactly the same network issues, all my local network endpoints dissapeared.
The discovery of and access to devices on your network is controlled by macOS, when you first open the application you should be prompted to allow Audirvana to find devices on your local network, you can either allow it or block the app. Unfortunately the Local Network section discussed does not allow you to manually add an app to its permissions (which seems a bit ill advised).
As AO shares the same local playback code and basic functionality as AS then I do not know why there should be any different result, maybe @Antoine can comment. As regards Audirvana 3.5.50. I just downloaded a version and used my old licence. When first opening I was prompted to allow 3.5 access to the local network by macOS, once I synced my library I went to play - No Network Devices, same as you. Went to system settings, privacy and security, local network and Audirvana 3.5 was listed. Toggled it off and back on. Restarted 3.5 and am now playing UPnP to my endpoint without issue (see image)**
A point worth noting. Whenever I install a new version of macOS (or a point release) I always do a clean install i.e erase disk, reinstall operating system, then apps, then data/music pictures etc. I do this because upgrading over an old installation can have issues, not often but it happens.
Dear Djm1960, first of all many thanks for spending your time trying to solve “my” problem! I have followed your directions but there is no change at all. The network does not appear. What strikes me is that JRiver works but Audirvanas don’t.
I’m not familiar with J River so cant comment. All I can say is that 3.5 works fine for me it would appear.
GULP!
I have tried to go back to Sonoma but my SDD inside the MacBook Air has not room enough and was worried to make a mess …
hi @Steve,
I’m sorry you experienced such an issue. Given the nightmare around Sequoia’s first version, we do not recommend moving to this version until Apple fixes it.
If you can revert to Sonoma, it would be better for you.
Have you tried to make some room in it? Like removing files from your bin?
If you are not fully familiar with the process I would not do it… There are instructions how to downgrade to 14.6.1 on Macworld website on todays front page (yes, lots of people are having issues…) If you decide to go this route it involves a total erase of the disk and reinstallation of everything. Most importantly back up all your data to a disk and make sure you copy your Origin database file for re-use and also use the backup option in Audirvana Origin, settings, local bottom of page, its a backup of your favourites, playlists and artist pictures.
Exactly. I stay where I am waiting for the macOS 15 update (hoping Apple makes the necessary bug-cleaning).
Could I bypass the problem using a cabled connection?
No it is a network stack issue in macOS. I connect my Mac occasionally by cable and by wireless to my network. The issues I had with loss of network endpoints occurred both on the cable or wireless connections. No harm in trying it though.
