Audirvana Studio to ultraRendu (MPD/DLNA) problems

Hi all

I’m having trouble getting Audirvana Studio to work with my Sonore ultraRendu.

Back in the day, I used Audirvana 3 with the ultraRendu successfully. Then I switched to Roon for a couple years, which worked with the ultraRendu via its Roon Ready settings. I’ve recently decided to return to Audirvana Studio as I prefer its sound quality and its metadata system.

Audirvana Studio recognizes the ultraRendu when it’s in MPD/DLNA mode. However songs stop playing after a few seconds, or don’t play at all, or very rarely I get lucky with a few minutes of music. I’ve found advice in other threads to use the uR’s MPD/DLNA compatibility mode (which I’ve done), and AS’s “do not use raw PCM” switch (which I’ve done), but the problems persist.

Interestingly, AS also won’t recognize the uR in Shairport mode, which normally is a fairly reliable back-up approach.

AS is effectively unusable for me now, so I’ve gone back to Roon. But really hoping I can find a solution as I much prefer the SQ and metadata system of AS. Any thoughts on what I could try?

Thanks
RC

Hello @defiantscientist,

Can you send us a copy of the “Debug Info” when you have this issue? You can get it in Audirvana Settings>My account

Note: By clicking on the Debug Info button, Audirvana automatically copies all its content, all you have to do is paste it in response to this message

Thanks @Antoine.

@Antoine this is exactly the problem I am currently having with the MicroRendu.

@defiantscientist so far, this has been unresolvable. I have posted extensively about it in another thread here.

Hopefully, @Antoine can get us some answers. So far, apparently, he has been unable to reproduce the issue.

@defiantscientist, have you had any luck getting your Rendu to work with AS?

Maybe this is relevant? I have an original signature series rendu, SPDIF output, which is basically a beefed up microrendu with an internal linear power supply. It’s connected to my network via a LAN cable/network switch. Since day one I have had nearly zero issues streaming local and external, Quobuz, content. A couple of times a month the music will repeatedly “skip” at the same spot, like a scratch on a record that prevents the needle from moving forward. The fix is always to reboot the Sonore. Anyway, let me know if posting my debugg info might help?

@defiantscientist and @GaseousClay ,

Can you both click on DAC diagnostics while you have your issue?

Thanks @Antoine for investigating further.

I just upgraded AS to the latest version 1.11.0, then started playing music successfully for a few minutes (which is further than I got before when I posted the message above), and then the same issue returned.

Here’s what I see on DAC Diagnostics:

Will do. I should be back in front of my computer tomorrow.

Hello @defiantscientist ,

Can you activate upsampling and use the setting custom to upsample any frequency to 24/96 and try to play a track again?

Here you go, @Antoine. Please let me know if you are able to do anything, before my trial is over. I’d still like to be able to use the software to play music for at least a couple of days.

Thanks.

It’s all you have for your device? Nothing more? I will send it to Sonore so make sure you have everything in it.

Would you like a screen recording?

Here’s another one, with it playing, using Audirvana Plus 3.2.20, since AS doesn’t play.

@Antoine, I just tried installing the update. I tried playing a cd-quality track, and I got the old, familiar “Initializing…, Loading…” stop. Nothing.

Here are the DAC diagnostics, after that rather predictable fiasco:

Finally, @Antoine, here is the report with the player stuck one second into a cd-quality track. I skipped to this track, after clearing the DLNA and MPD caches, in the SonicOrbiter software, playing the MQA track that composed the above report, and the player froze, one second into the track. If I try to play the next track, I once again get “Initializing, Loading, stop”.

Hi @Antoine

I activated upsampling and used the custom setting to upsample all frequencies to 96 kHz (see attached screenshot).

I was able to play music for about 5 minutes, jumping across a few tracks. Then the same issue came up again and can not play any tracks. Restarted AS and still can’t play any tracks.

However, turned off my full sound system (including the ultraRendu) and then turned it back on again, then restarted AS. I can then play tracks for a few mins again before the issue returns and can’t play any tracks.

Thanks
Ravi
