Cambridge Audio CXN failure

With Raw PCM on it works after a fasion. There has just been an update to 1.5.7 which i have not tested

Ok, can you make some test with 1.5.7 with or without the Raw PCM option enabled?

With 1.5.7

Neither raw PCM on or off provides play.

• Selected local album or Tidal album
• Press Play
• Loading First Track shows
• No Playback - just sits there !! no indication on progress time bar

This is how it was originally , with 1.5.5 adding with RawPCM played , its now reverted to not play !!

Setting up-sample to “Device Max” allowed play in 1.5.5. now 1.5.7 doesn’t play in this mode , it s worse than before !! Moving 1.5.5 to 1.5.7 has broken the up-sample work around – maybe a clue ?

AS plays to my local sound card (included on MB) but that’s as far as I can go

My Rpi4 running Riopeee XL show as a device and plays

Hi Mike and Damien, today I have been able to get music playing through the CXN via UPnP. I did a computer re-boot and I had to set the CXN in network standby mode manually, use 1.5.7 and the raw workaround. It worked for all resolutions BUT the controls (pause etc) still do not work. The ‘loading first track’ worked and the cover art and data showed on the CXN screen. It may not be stable (as I did manage most of this once before) but I will try a whole album and report on sound quality later. Maybe you could give it a try too?

Hi Damien, I see that you have had ‘bug info’ from three of us and wonder if you have been able to see the problem. However, as I reported earlier I have now succeeded in using DNLA to listen to Qobuz via SA. It has worked for 3 days and several albums streamed without a glitch. Sound quality is similar to a usb connection and is thus very good. The controls for pause, repeat, shuffle etc still do not function on DNLA but ok with usb. The ‘go to next track’ button works. The problem with tracks stopping before the end and going on to the next track is still there but I can only reproduce it on one album. It seems to be independent of ‘amount of memory allocated to preload’. I have also played 16.44 tracks which now work fine. Also upsampling works without stopping before the end of the track. Note: I use the CXN V2 in ‘network standby’ mode which automatically starts the player when it detects an incoming stream. I hope this helps.

I really don’t know what to suggest. I am certainly not going to pay a sub to check if AS works !!

Maybe a trial extension may be forthcoming , the we need to fix the iPad connection issue, every time I weaken and decide to give AS another chance I get a connection failure

I find something which can make my Edge NQ able to use UPnP to play music from AS

The trick is before using AS, play any music from CA’s streammagic apps, once play you can stop it. Then open AS and start play music…It works!!

I will use this trick until AS or CA fix the issue and my trial end… But be frank, I don’t think AS worth me to pay for it at this moment…even the SQ is better than Roon, but it’s too buggy… (Except UPnP, another bug is I can’t pause song from the apps, I need to use the Edge remote to do it).

No offence meant but why should we have to mess around like that to make a piece of paid software work . I would have expected a piece of software that selects uPNP as its chosen transport system should work out of the box.

Its not as if Cambridge Audio is an unknown streamer technology , given that 3.5 worked and still works fine.

The release in my opinion was premature and we are expected to “workaround” while the developer sorts out his bugs.

Sorry @Damien , I am a retired certified MS developer , I know its a complex development but I personally would be embarrassed.

That is essentially what I was saying in my previous post but with reference to the CXN V2. As long as the screen when I start out says ‘Select tracks using the Streammagic App’ then SA will play normally. I don’t have to actually play a track via the Streammagic App. I also have to control playback using the Cambridge remote control not the buttons in SA (except for the blue ‘padlock’ stop button). It is almost as if the SA software says to the Cambridge " here is a stream on UPnP’ but omits to tell it to play it!

I have had Audirvana Studio for 2 months and during that time I have failed to play a single track without having to up-sample , even that trick is now not helping as is the RAW setting. The odd track I did manage to play sounded very good so hope started …

I was genuinely trying AS (as an alternative to Roon) as a means of resurrecting my Cambridge Audio CXN V1 which is DNLA/uPNP and not Roon ready so is effectively un-used.

I had high hopes but alas not to be I am sorry to report this way but I have no other route to express my feelings.

I suppose it’s Good Bye except for the odd thought on 3.5 , while it lasts …

Did the Windows logs give any indications ?

Unfortunately no because we do not store all the log interaction by default, this is why we need to build a special version for it.

Budgie64, When you first turn on your CXN what does it say on the CXN screen? I don’t mean after you try to play SA.

Nothing has changed

I leave mine on stand by mostly so it just wakes as a signal comes in

I have a CXN v1 and have the same issue, Audiovana Studio won’t play - it loads the first track and then nothing happens. However, AS does play to my Yamaha WXAD-10 and even to my Samsung HD6400 TV so is the problem with the CXN or AS? To complicate things further Audirvana 3.5 does play to my CXN, WXAD-10 and HD6400! I have had problems with my CXN before when Cambridge Audio have ‘updated’ its firmware and it stops streaming with 3rd party UPnP apps (BubbleUPnP, HiFiCast). CA have then done a further fix. Just posting this because the issue may not lie with AS, CA certainly have ‘form’ in creating UPnP problems. However, odd that 3.5 does play so when my free trail of AS ends I won’t be subscribing. CA and AS probably need to work together but what are the chances of that?
