Continually skipping tracks part way through

For the moment this is not possible but it has been requested multiple times by users and we are working on it.

Unfortunately still happens but maybe less frequently - have tried with no upsampling and various Sox/rbrain8 options.

@Antoine

Seems far more stable since NAS has been scanned, but app just crashed out of the blue.

Is the full crash report of any help, part below?

With premature ending of some tracks I’m wondering if there might be a bug somewhere despite the whole track being buffered which miscalculates the number of samples until the end of the track resulting in Audirvana moving to the next track thining it’s finished playing the previous one when it hasn’t???

Hi @Antoine and @TheCat , I have the exaclt same problem. I’ve been e-mailing around and seeking support. My playback skips randomly during playback. It is quite rare on MQA but occurs every few tracks on TIDAL FLAC upsampling.

r8brain Upsampling to DSD512 and it does make a difference and for me is the central differentiator of this product. I please help with resolving this instability issue.

Studio has been considerably more stable in recent days, very obvious since it complete ‘fingerprinting’ my NAS audio files (over wi-fi).

Not 100% stable but much better, but I think it may be relevant, I’m unsure if this function if incomplete is disabled during audio playback - it would make sense for analysis to pause if other computer features are suspended for playback.

The issue with items ending/stopping early I initially considered to maybe be due to network issues (though other apps work ok). I’ve recently wondered if it could be due to an oddity related to calculating total track samples.

For example, if a track buffers and I see the complete waveform for a 4 minute track but it skips at 3 mins 20 secs, could there be an issue whereby the track is 4 minutes but either due to a metadata or calculation error Audirvana thinks the track has fewer samples to stream and thereby ‘ends’ as it should but erroneously early? Just a thought.

The same. It’s an error related to loading buffer/calculating time of the track. Try setting the buffer very low (500) and probabily you
will be surprised. AS will not load the entire track from the beginning and… and… IT WORKS! But other problems may appear…

Oddly I’ve used version 1.6.1.3 for weeks and it’s been very stable with few glitches - upgraded to 1.6.4 tonight and skippimg straight away on local files at exactly the same point - I have to wonder if local file info is kept in Audirvana’s local database (which may be wrong if calculated via an older version) or if playback data is calculated on the fly at each play when the file is loaded? @Damien @Antoine

I’m not sure the debug info captures what is required.

Will try with a lower buffer.

It will be interesting to hear what happens if you use a lower buffer. I have had the same problem but it is very rare. It has only happened on few classical streams and is always the second track. If you start with track 2 or play each track one at a time it does not skip. This made me think it was some kind of time calculation problem. (Not encountered on 3.5.)

Yes, it’s a time calculation problem. In my case the progress of the seek bar is displayed wrong, like the app think that the track has 30 seconds instead of 3 minutes. Maybe with small buffers AS can’t evaluate the “situation” from the beginning and play correct. Now I use KS, DoP 1.0 and no upsampling or VST. Seems to be ok.

I’ve been wondering if this might be something to do with available system resources as I often have lots of browser windows/tabs open at a time.

Much better with lower buffer size but not entirely without hiccups.

Has anyone solved the problem of always skipping the second song in hi-res? Lowering the buffer didn’t help either. It does it for me even after updating to 1.7

It seemed worse to me on 1.7 yesterday, hard to know, but don’t think AS is happy that my NAS share is not currently accessible.

Completely unstable now, I really have no idea why, even reverting to older version/reboot didn’t help. Disabled system optimisation too.

Could the AS database be corrupt if it stores file lengths etc for local files? That would not explain skipping tracks streamed from the internet though.

I just had this happen today streaming Qobuz through AS. The second track on the album “A Beginner’s Mind” by Sufjan Stevens skipped about 10 to 15 seconds into playing. Going back to the track, it played all the way through, so it might have just been a glitch in my case.

This did not happen at all with 1.6.4, and I hope it doesn’t become a problem with 1.7.

Hi, I’ve been on trial a week or so with many hours comparing this to Roon. I have read quite a bit about tracks skipping and I have it bad.

I like the sound quality a lot or I wouldn’t even be bothered trying to sort this out because I see numerous complaints here but no resolution.

Nearing the end of the track it will either
a) skip to the end and keep skipping track to track never fully completing any track
b) Replay the first part of the track again before proceeding to the next track
c) combinations of a & b

I have tried changing the buffer size from smallest to obesely large (I have 32 GB ram) and still skips.
I have tried turning off oversampling and this helps but does not eliminate the problem and oversampling does offer a small uptick in SQ so I will look elsewhere if I need to turn it off.

Downsampling is necessary for me since I have quite a few DSF files but my DAC supports only PCM.

I need to have output set to JPlay renderer - this is non-negotiable.

Please advise or I cannot purchase as intended!

BTW, on my system Roon loses to Audirvana regarding sound quality so I won’t be purchasing that software.

Is there somewhere other than here I can request official support!?
