Crackle noise

I am getting a crackle noise L/R channels. Seems like only in the higher Freq. Just notice this on a DSD album

I try anything if I have a good reason. Why turn if off?
I got volume issues as it is. 250 WPC amp with 125 WPC speakers. Sometimes I have to push 70 on the volume bar to get a good volume, not loud. That I totally don’t understand.

Not an expert on that, but ain’t DSD have to be played at 100% Volume ?

I have no idea.
If I did turn it up to 100% if would be to loud.
Trying to figure out where I live in this digital world of audio.
Iv’e got good back end equipment. This front end stuff is a nightmare.

my DAC has a volume control and a remote,
so i don’t use the volume control in Audirvana

Interesting, mine work in unison. Using a remote I can volume up, playback, or stop current track from playing.

i think mine is like a preamp dac thing, so it has a volume control ??

The DAC is built in on the Hegal 390. It’s a good DAC. Has ethernet and USB. Needs a streamer for the USB for the higher Res. playback.

Deactivate Volume leveling as @RunHomeSlow suggests and Volume Control…
What you are probably getting are ISP’s (Inter Sample Peaks) that precipitate clipping distortion related to the Normalization process of volume leveling… Use your amp’s volume control…

I use volume levelling, but no software volume control… never a clipping issue.

Are you using volume leveling in the context of DSD playback where the DAC does not support DSD and all DSD files are being down-converted/decimated to PCM 24/176.4kHz?

Wondering about the physical layout of the network between the player host, an Apple computer running Audirvana and the UPNP device the Hegel H390… Wifi or Ethernet, routers, bridges, modems, etc?

Could this be from packet loss/retry across the network?

Also if I am reading this correctly, out of 8GB of RAM you are allocating ~5GB for audio buffers? Mabe try 1GB or 2GB for the buffers…

The lack of available System RAM as you point out, in concert with the decimation processing of DSD → PCM 24/176.4kHz and the normalization processing (volume leveling) on the result of the DSD decimation process, which adds 6dB of gain as seen here in the debug report:

Mac to the router, static IP for H390. NAS is home for the music files. All ethernet connections. Cat 6 cable.

So I lower the buffer to 2 GB. Took out volume control. This is what I got.
