Crazy memory usage

Audirvana Mac Version 3.5.29 (3559)
macOS 10.13.6 with 32768MB RAM

using an apollo x6 as the DAC, debug info under “AUDIO DEVICE” says
Max. memory for audio buffers: 29696MB

with no playback:
Activity Monitor reports ~490MB/210MB memory/compressed.

playing a 24bit 96kHz FLAC audio file after ~30 seconds:

This seems nuts. Ideas?

Check out the preloading cache size. Much of the allocated memory is that.
