DSD 512 distortion after Audirvana update

Hi All,

I am using Audirvana STUDIO. I have done the very recent update and since this whenever I try to play DSD 512 I get distortion ramdomly, but when it starts it gets worse. I didn’t suffer this prior to the last update. I have a Denafrips Pontus 2 DAC which my PC is connected to the USB connector.
All other DSD 64, 128 and 256 play with no issues as do the other PCM formats. I have downloaded and loaded the latest denafrips driver to no avail. Any ideas would be appreciated. I will get the debug info and post it here ASAP.

Hi @Dan3,

I will then wait for you to post your debug info to properly answer you

hi Antoine,

DoP 1.1 is the current state of the “DSD over PCM” protocol…
Make sure your firmware is the latest…
It appears the DENAFRIPS device is playing games with the sample-rate to manufacture the correct support for DSD128, DSD256 and DSD512 via DoP 1.0… The DoP carrier sample-rate for DSD128 is 352.8kHz , DoP carrier sample-rate for DSD256 is 705.6kHz… The DoP carrier sample-rate for DSD512 is 1411.2kHz …

The DENAFRIPS information is not clearly defined as to how DSDxxx is handled via DoP…

If all things are the same prior to the update, you may be running out of available RAM resources for playback when your system RAM is only 8GB and you have 50% of your available RAM allocated for audio buffer memory… Try allocating less audio buffer memory RAM until you get clean playback… Some PC/Windows users that playback DSDxxx here on the forum, may be of more help… My suggestion is to add more RAM if you need a large audio buffer memory allocation, which you will need for reliable DSD512 playback…
