DSD256 playback

On the Mac it’s not an option. Most manufacturers don’t provide custom drivers, so it’s DoP only.

You said that through Roon it’s playing DSD256 as DSD128? That’s also not normal. Why it downsamples?

My DAC would have to play 768kHz PCM in order to play DSD 256 over PCM1.1–it only plays up to PCM 384, thus it downsamples to DSD128.

The fact that the DAC doesn’t play 768kHz PCM it still doesn’t mean that the USB interface can’t accept that rate in DoP and unpack it. It’s a question of implementation. The interface itself offers ample bandwidth. That’s why it makes sense to investigate this with the manufacturer.

I solved the problem by digging out my Windows 10 HP laptop, installing the USB driver for the DAC in in Oppo, which plays 256 DSD, plugging my HP into it, and bingo, it worked! Wow, that DSD file sounds amazing.

It says you set up Audirvana not mqa dac…
You put pcm over dsd 1.1 in dac Audirvana prefs?

I don’t know how auto detection works, but you can override both. Set MQA to MQA Decoder and DSD to DoP 1.1 and you’ll be good.

Are you referring to me?

I didn’t ask anything of it BUT I n oticed what you did. I shall post what the debug now says.

As I said I am not a techy. I made changes but don’t know why or what to. So it is best to show you what I did and you can maybe tell me what I should do?

btw it plays the flac back at 192khz even thio the file says it’s 48khz MQA.

Here is the debug with changes. I do not know if I changed the MQA correctly nor the DSD.

yes i was reffering to you

you are upsampling with the sox resampler… put it at deactivated if you want the song to be played like they are… i don’t have mqa and don’t know how this thing should output…

another thing i see is that you software volume is at 89%… i think it should be at 100% for DSD playing… not sure…

That’s MQA thing, so it’s working.

It won’t allow me to just thank you. It is good to know that MQA is working.

However, having recently been reading articles about MQA it would seem to be another attempt to get money for nothing. In other words MQA is not the improvement in sound its says. I admit to not being able to hear anything different. I DO hear a difference with 192khz as does my husband who being a trained Opera singer (bass) ought to know. But then to be frank my ordinary cd 44.1khz are very pleasing. I guess because I am fortunate to have a very good sound system.

Back to MQA: I was under the impressions it was a recording of what was heard in the studio without processing.

Thank you.I made changes as suggested. I have not bought any DSD files as I don’t know enough about them. I have read that they are no better than my 192khz files. The only DSD files I have were obtained by recording a cd in DSD which I would not think is a real DSD file. I do know each file is very large-a few hundred mb per track.

Her is the new Debug info. I at least understand some of it.

You can try dsd files for free here:

You’ll also find the MQA files and PCM files in various resolutions, all created from the same source. This gives you the chance to compare apples to apples, oranges to oranges.

I am very confused. I got a message saying the community, I assume they mean other readers, complained that my posts were spam.

How was that conclusion come to? What did it appear that I was selling?

I was merely trying to ascertain answers to peculiar things this program does, lijke tell me my DAC doesn’t play MQA or DSD files when it odes. Was I not supposed to mention the make and model of the DAC?

Was it the Debug info that was gther problem?

Not only am I left still confused about the meaning of some of the things Audirvana tells me but now feel, despite trying not to, somewhat offended that when reaching out for help, I am considered to be a spammer.

None of this makes sense to me.

Maybe because too much long debug or text from new user :grinning:

Hello @Knitman, this is an automatic system form the forum that marked one of your responses as a spam since you put your debug info in two response and the system identified it as spam.

I felt I had good reason. My debug info showed errors. I corrected them as advised and wanted to see if I had done so correctly. Now I am not sure what I can do.

So rather than show the debug info, I can say this:

Thank you to the person who posted the 2l link.(What a shame they no longer exist.) I downloaded a DSD64 in 5.1 surround. It played beautifully and Audirvana reported that it was playing a DSD64 and other info.

There must be something wrong with me. At age 61 I am beginning to enjoy classical music. Maybe it is to do with brain damage. (Something I am quite serious about. I am unable to walk and my ability to communicate can be impaired and I sometimes write nonsense. So please be aware of this. My head was my father’s favourite football and my brain pays the price. Not my spirit. That is content and happy and enjoys every second of the life I have. I just point this out so you are forewarned if I post something incomprehensible. It will make sense to me, if not you.)

I downloaded a DSD64 (5.1) file and it played beautifully. Such a shame 2l has closed. Do you know a source for obtaining DSD files?

Thank you kindly.

The link That I posted is still Up there…
