well this is the worst scenario unfortunately. Don’t get me wrong, your router might perfectly be up to the task and have all the necessary bandwidth.
If the files are on the macbook, and both devices are connected via wifi, the stream will flow from your mac to the router and then to the streamer, competing for the bandwidth. Any change you can try at least temporarily a wired connection, at least on the streamer end?
I shoud buy something like [this](https://Douk Audio U2 USB Convertisseur XMOS XU208 Interface Numérique TOSLINK Coaxial DOP SPDIF Adaptateur DSD64 PCM192Khz) and an optical cable. Should I?
well that would be a direct connection between the laptop and the streamer. This in any case would result in lower use of wifi bandwidth, it might be worth trying but I wouldn’t buy the device just for that.
By “wired connection” I was suggesting to connect at least the streamer to the router using an ethernet cable and stream normally from the MacBook, and see if this has any impact. If you can and have the necessary hardware, you might connect the macbook via ethernet, just to rule out wifi issues.
Ah, yes, I have both. I can try. I’ll be back to you tomorrow. Many thanks Giovanni, you are very helpful.
It has been a pleasure… let’s hope to find something with this test. Or maybe in the meantime some other users of Audirvana owning a device similar to yours might suggest a solution!
Oh gosh! My ethernet cable is not long enough to connect the router to the Atoll. There are at least 10 mt. between the two.
yeah… kind of expected this you need at least one long cable…
The only thing I can do is to connect the Macbook to the router. This is just half of the test.
it’s better than nothing. Did something change?
I have to wait till tomorrow … still managing the WAF* …
- wife approval factor
By the way, let’s suppose it is a WiFi trasmission problem. How coud it be managed? With something like this?
If there a bandwidth issue, you might upgrade your router if it support older standard.
These instead would not suffer wifi issues, but their performance depends on the quality of the wiring in your house.
Yes, I used them years ago but they worked badly.
In the meantime I changed the router position … Let’s see tomorrow. Good night.
I wouldn’t rush decisions before the problem is determined. If your router is modern, it’s probably not the issue, but anyway wifi must be ruled out just to be sure. In case, running cables inside the wall has a very high WAF but it costs a lot of money, while running them outside the wall in ducts is cheap but has a very, very low WAF at least in my experience
Let’s hope something emerges when you perform your tests!
- Router in a different position: no change
- Macbook wired to the router while WiFi working connecting router to the ST300: no change
Unfortunately it is “materially” impossible to wire the router to the ST300.
In the meantime, I have got a super-kind reply from Tony of Atoll’s R&D. They will be working on these issues in the next few weeks.
So it’s probably not a wifi issue, which is good and also expected. Your router is not very old, it should have plenty of bandwith for streaming audio comfortably. So I’d have faith on the R&D team from Atoll, maybe they can reproduce the issue and suggest a solution or a workaround!
