Help with brainstormšŸ’™ "SOLVED" šŸ’™

Hi you helpfull audiophilesāœŠšŸ». Iā€™ll keep it shortā€¦well,try tošŸ˜¬.

I ainā€™t technical but iā€™m trying to become sort of.
Stillā€¦ I still have the problem with 16/24 files; thereā€™s a humm noticableā€¦ pretty loud.
When i start upsampling to 24/96 the hum is gone. Problem solved?.. I donā€™t know.

Let me try to explain;
I have the Qutest as a dac. The microrendu as a bridge and lately also a Stack link 2.
So now i can play music with qobuz via Audirvanaā€¦but i want to have the best way of producing the best sound. I thougt it was with upsampling with audirvanaā€¦but now i wanna compare it to the qutest. Just bit perfect. Or even better to let the Qutest do the upsampling if thats a possibilityā€¦
So now iā€™m trying in the settings menu of audirvana
To find a way to let the Qutest do all the work. And to compare i want to let Audirvana do all the work.
But i donā€™t know what iā€™m doingā€¦ i change the presets and listen etc etc. And i hear differencesā€¦but i wanna know WHAT iā€™m hearing; the Qutest or Audirvana.

I hope i made myself understandable?:grimacing:ā€¦ otherwise i will try it againā€¦and again.

Okayā€¦other questionā€¦and maybe a dumb one;

Whatā€™s accomplished when changing the settings of: for bridge devices connected to a dac.
I now have it on 44.1khzā€¦ 2secā€¦32 bit.

What does this option do to the dac or to the microrendu oer stack audio link 2?

ā€¦i had a big clickboombang thingie when changing from song to song but with asio it seems gone. Back to wasapi it appears againā€¦
Iā€™m gonna try yo update the driversā€¦ hope it will solve the issueā€¦

ā€¦butā€¦ When i use the upsampling function of audirvana, whatā€™s the use of one dac or another dac that accept the upsampling? Does the dac even matters? Is i said; brainstorm

It does matter of course. Upsampling will bring some difference, but ultimately the quality of the reproduction will depend on the DAC (and the other components in the reproduction chain).

Thanks for the reply!.. But this is one of the things that i want to know; if what you say is what it is(which i believe) then why do people want their dacs to to the upsampling or vice versa? Sound taste? And how can it be acomplished with the audirvana settings to hear the quetest or to hear Audirvana do his music/sound reproduction?
To deactivate upsampling?
But then i read that some people say; i will let my dac do the upsamplingā€¦ How do they acomplish that? It needs a piece of software to tell the dac to do so? Audirvana?..and that leads to the question: how and what settings.

But probably iā€™m thinking wrong and have to dig deeper in the audirvana forumā€¦

The answer to this question is rooted deeply in the psychology of the audiophiles. Some just want to see that itā€™s playing at insane bitrate (bigger is better), some subjectively prefer how it sounds upsampled and in some rare cases it does indeed help the filters in the DAC to do a better job.

The reality is that pretty much every modern DAC upsamples to a degree internally. In the case of Chord it upsamples the crap out of it with a dedicated FPGA and a custom code developed by Rob Watts. Iā€™m assuming you bought that specific DAC because you trust the engineering that went into it. Why do you believe that the SoX can do a better job than Rob? Even upsampled, Chord DAC will do further upsampling.

If your DAC sounds bad when you play bit-perfect, something else is up. You need to figure out what it is. Sill, if you find the sound when upsampled more pleasing to you, by all means turn on the upsampling. In the end it needs to be pleasing to you and nobody else.

Have a look at this video:

ā€¦this is incredible helpfullā€¦ And yes, thats why i choose this dacā€¦
So if i understand what you are saying, a dac samples ā€œupā€ even if Audirvanaā€™s upsampling is turned offā€¦ Even if the dac says different by saying it is the same sample rate as qobuz gives to audirvana and audirvana to the dacā€¦ A dac always do some upsampling as designed by the designer.

So now i can compare Audirvana upsampling vs Qutest dac chip and see what my ears like most.
(Chord shows more black and audirvana more airā€¦)

Nice!..i will start a serious comparison.

Butā€¦ That brings me back to my first ever question on this forum; there is a buzz in the 16 bit sample rate and when upsampling its gonešŸ™„.

Using Roon the buzz is goneā€¦using audirvana it appears againā€‹. And i donā€™t wanna use roon, iā€™m an audirvanianā€¦

How to stop de humming?

Yep, exactly that.

Regarding the ā€œbuzzā€, there must be something wrong to cause this. Can you dump the debug info here?

ā€¦nice ā€¦ always learning:)

Debug infoā€¦uhmmmā€¦ Iā€™m gonna search how to do thatā€¦ one moment please ā€¦ probably a long moment :grimacing:ā€¦iā€™ll be backā€¦

Ahā€¦found itā€¦ another moment please

Thanks!.. I didnā€™t know that the quetest needed a driverā€¦ Didnā€™t even know there was a driverā€¦
just being honest :grimacing:ā€¦
Just a dumb audiophile and as always :speaking_head::musical_note: "an absolute beginner":musical_note:

Thanks againā€¦iā€™m gonna try it right awayā€¦

Nopeā€¦didnā€™t workā€¦itā€™s still there. When i pause a song it stops,when i play it beginsā€¦

Is this correct?(see photo)

I think there is an issue with microRendu not interfacing correctly with the Qutest. Just to confirm this, could you attach the DAC using USB and try to play by selecting the ASIO Chord 1.05.

Excuse me for my late response. Work was callingā€¦

At the moment iā€™m not playing with the microrendu. I use a Stack Link 2. With the microrendu i have the same problemā€¦a humm/buzz.

The Stack link 2 is coupled to the Qutest with a usb cable. I have tried to play music by selecting the ASIO Chord 1.05ā€¦ but no music.

Tomorrow, first thing in the morning i will restart de quetest and see if that will do anything to interfacing wit the Stack link 2.

Just a thought: it seems iā€™m playing music with audirvana through the Stack link 2 ( before that microrendu) didnā€™t see anything that had to do with a dac.
Now, when i open asio chord 1.05 it seems it is possible to have the same playback options as with the stack link 2 but then under the name of the Qutestā€¦
Donā€™t know what that meansā€¦i just try to think logical but it is complicated stuffā€¦

I had the same problem with the microrendu. Thatā€™s why i started to updampleā€¦to loose the humm/buzz

The only thing of audiogear or cables, power supply etc that stayed the same is the quetest.
So to me the problem is with audirvana, because roon worked fine.
So i hope when i restart the Qutest, and use the asio chord 1,5 option the oriblem will be solvedā€¦
First thing in the morningā€¦ I let you know.

Nopeā€¦ nothingā€¦ restarting the dac didnā€™t help. When i choose ;asio chord 1.05 it says; device not connected.

When i choose; sa- link (link) (audirvana endpoint)
The humm/buzz stil is thereā€¦

When clicking the settings menu right down in the screen i can choose between wasapi and asio. Both making no difference to the humm. I have chosen the asio option yesterday because i hoped it would stop the clicking and the sometimes incredible loud noise distortion. It happened during upsampling with wasapi so i chose asioā€¦didnā€™t solve the problem so i stopped upsampling and start Playing bitperfect and thats when the humm/buzz appears.
The clicking and loud noise seems also here but thats another problem. I think and hope i can solve thatā€¦ But first as i mentioned; wasapi or asio.
They are both listed under; dac
So are the options to choose:- asio Chord 1.05
and asio4all v2

Then beneath that there is the ootion ; sa-link(link)
And thatā€™s the only option that plays musicā€¦with the humm/buzzā€¦

Itā€™s a very difficult puzzle to me and i wanna solve itā€¦
