I just got a new computer and the Audirvana library did NOT migrate seamlessly! I’ve been squashing problems left and right but one most nagging is it is not showing all my albums! THEN I noticed ALL the artwork and changes I made via the Origin interface are GONE with the preference file that was corrupted! Literally HOURS of work to sort out my 1000+ album library. It’s a mess now!
DO NOT waste your time making changes to your library via Origin interface. Changing names and disc numbers and artwork etc are connected with the preference file and WHEN not IF it goes sideways you are screwed!
Are you not able to retrieve the good preference/database file (AudirvanaDatabase.sqlite) from the old computer and remove and replace the corrupted file in the new computer?
I think you just experienced in a bad way that it is always better to edit the tags in the files themselves. There are many software applications that can do this. A free and good one is Musicbrainz Picard software.
Then the changes you are made are embedded in the files themselves and any program that reads the metadata will read it the same way.
Programs like the one I mentioned are able to sync tags from the Musicbrainz database, so you don’t have to do it all manually. You can choose to sync the tags from the database and then adjust what you would like different or what is missing.
I hope this helps a little bit to soften the disappointment, because I know what it is to have your careful labor of love being undone this way.
When you tag albums or tracks in Origin or Studio… tags are saved in files…
it is easy to see, just check your files in the Mac Finder or in a PC where it is residing… look at the date modified there and you will see that they were changed as today…
if you load your cover manually in Audirvana and hit save button,
it will be embedded in the file for sure… look at date changed also, and the weight of the file will go higher because of cover embedded…
For your Artist pictures or playlists, that might be different,
i don’t play with custom images…
but, go back to old computer and go there to backup (see image),
then, go back to new and restore the file…
Copy .sqlite file when Audirvana is close.
Copy the preferences files in your Home Folder Library… preferences. (Mac)
Restore your playlists…
Restart Computer first, then open Audirvana and see.
Even if i just change a letter in an Album or Track and hit save,
my library will be updated a minute after in my JRiver database
that as the same files Audirvana is looking at…
I just find it more convenient and consistent to tag files using Musicbee (free). The interface is way better, at least for me that used it for years. Maybe it’s an Apple-like interface thing but to me it is confusing and sometimes Audirvana doesn’t do what I think I’m telling it to do.
I then simple have Audirvana scanning the music folder but any tag problem I then go back to Musicbee. Very rarely I also use MP3Tag when I have something like album title showing as something in Musicbee but something else in Audirvana for some reason I can’t figure out. Musicbee also automates tagging by album, searching Amazon etc, a bit like Musicbrainz. Way simpler but not as powerful as MusicBrainz.
My advise is you do it this way, I never ran into problems by doing it like this. I can not say the same if I try to tag using Audirvana. It’s the best player soundwise but IMHO that’s it. Roon has its better streaming protocole, other free software have better tagging.
To me its perfect. It has the best layout I know of, at least after setting it the way you want and you can pretty much change everything. In an easy way, not through plugins.
I really like how you have the artists on the left on a big scrollable column and then you click on one and have all the albums you own in the centre.
And it has a function I dearly miss which is the automatic now playing full screen onto the second screen. Foobar2000 is overwhelming to me but this has just the right options. Petty it doesn’t sound as good as Audirvana.
Something happened to the original preference file or new Mac and Origin not playing nice. I use Mac Time Machine and many to chose from and they all locked up Audirvana. I had a time even loading Origin and the only thing that worked was starting over.
Origin needs to have, or maybe it does and I can’t find it, a way to go from a song or album to the actual file to investigate that instead of relying upon/trusting that Origin actually made changes.
My setup of MusicBee is similar, though you are making me second-guess my colour/theme choice! For sound I do like MB, it is very musical and less fatiguing to my ears.
Paraphrasing myself from before, “because Audirvana is a great product and one that other music app developers could stand to learn from”, and also because as my needs, equipment, and understanding of my own appreciation for music change Audirvana will remain on my short-list of music players.
Why do you need to be so hostile to people whose opinions don’t align with your own?
If you can provide any quantifiable insights please do so… However, subjective assertions such as “…very musical and less fatiguing to my ears…” and "…(Now using it as my full-time music player.) … have no value… The intent of the question I posed remains…
They might not have value for you but I actually care more about subjective than objective. I prefer the Audirvana sound subjectively and was pointed to it by people that subjectively felt the same. Quatifiable doesn’t tell the whole story, at least for a lot of us. Music enjoyment is subjective, so no big surprise there.
And a subjective assertion about the sound-quality of an alternative player is contextually relevant to the premise of the original post, which is, regarding a problem with meta-data transfer, in what way?
Noting once again that if you prefer, the forum provides an easy mechanism to place people on an ignore list so you don’t see one of their posts unless you purposely unhide it.
And has so many factors! For example I am exploring a potential issue with mid-high treble, I seem to be over-sensitive to the frequencies often labelled as “presence”.
First though, I get to play with a tube amp soon. Hopefully before the end of the month, so I can see how I feel about Audirvana with a completely different amp.
