Latest Update on 2.9.4

I have tried FLAC, AAC, Mpeg files as well as Ogg radio streams… Still no plug-in management available in the signal processing pipeline…

Unfortunately have just left my apartment so can’t confirm visually checking but it should be located as follows……

/Users/{username}/Library/Application Support/Preferences/com.audirvana.Audirvana-Studio.plist

The library folder is hidden by default. Just go to your home folder then right click in the finder window and ā€œshow view optionsā€. Midway down the view options dialog there should be a checkbox to ā€œshow library folderā€. Then just go to Library and then Application Support etc as detailed above until you find the preference file.

Thanks David Yep two files:

Just in the Preferences File (deleted)
Audirvana Application (deleted)
Open 2.9.4 File
All setup steps were already there. Go though and just check all your settings again on each of the Settings Pages.
As good as new.

Glad to hear you have got your plugins back!

Thanks @Djm1960… Your solution worked for me…

Just curious. Do you use Audirvãna on MacOS, or Windows?
I never heard any difference in SQ in the past, but this weekend I had the chance to compare my old Dell Windows laptop to an almost equally old MacBook.
I hear a distinct difference in favour of the Dell, and I can’t help but think it is because of the new platform that AudirvĆ£na uses on Windows.

I am using Audirvana Studio 2.9.4 and macOS 15.1 on a M2 Max, Mac Studio with 64GB RAM…
You are generally comparing is the hardware platform capabilities/configurations (CPU, RAM, memory bus speeds, drive speeds, etc,) in regard to how each handle the operations of the newest software in this context.

An interesting comparison of audio players was done by Alpha Audio in late 2022, they compared Audirvana with Roon and Plexamp. Their conclusion was despite the ā€œbits are bitsā€ mantra there were significant differences between the players with Audirvana coming out on top. Interestingly they claimed Audirvana sounded better on macOS than windows. Obviously they are three individuals so a very small sample (2 of them long time Roon users) and it will always come down to an individuals preference, also the players no doubt have been updated in the last 2 years so perceptions may be outdated. At least it confirmed to me the differences I hear between the respective players is not related to a particular cognitive bias…

A long winded assessment (3 hrs) jump towards the end for their conclusions:

Yes. I suppose your Mac would way better perform here.
The Dell has 8 Gb Ram, this old Mac has only 2 of 2 Gb, and I think the processor of the Mac is the thing that probably does the damage here. I believe I saw that it has only a i2 duo processor. The Dell has an i5. Will check that again.

Both are old bricks, been meaning to replace them anyway, as they are from the stoneage and I figure I could get more of Audirvãna with a more sophisticated machine.

Knowing what we know now (see: To the Core: what determines the sound of software? - Alpha Audio ), I would probably say that the Shuttle PC used in that comparison is for a large part determining how it sounds, probably more than the OS.

If you want to compare how Windows and MacOS versions compare, you should have two equal MacBooks, one running Windows, the other MacOS and then compare.

This layered scenario will never work as a fair comparison because Windows is running on top of the macOS architecture… the Windows system API’s (Application Programming Interface) are not running natively.

Haha, yes. True. But that’s an exercise that others may want to do. Way too much hassle for me at home

Same here. No desire to install windows, even an arm version. I was just glad, having been brought up on the ā€œbits is bits, so have to sound the sameā€¦ā€ mantra espoused by many on forums, that the gentlemen in the video also heard a difference between the different players confirming my perceptions.

Now which you prefer is entirely a personal thing, always go with what sounds best to you!
