Letās put it this way, can CD hold analog content?
Of course:

A to D then D to A again? Storage device? Is this a trick question?
Yāall making my head hurt
And its lands and pits on cdā¦ā¦
Yeah thatās the ticket!

Sharks with frigginā lasers. I just love the Austin Powers movies.
It holds digital representations as ābitsā and āwordsā otherwise ācodeā stored as lands and pits on a physical medium. Digital-audio is a binary encoding scheme protocol.
For those who have a ZEN DAC. Iāve looked up the colors that are being used when you are listening to certain types of stuff.
Yellow - PCM 44.1/48kHz
White - PCM 88.2 kHz - 384kHz
Cyan - DSD 64/128
Red - DSD 256
Green - MQA
Blue - MQA Studio
Magenta - MQB
Your going to make @Agoldnear jealous.
I buyās a M1 Mac Mini in full configuration (16GB RAM, 2TB SSD) in Aug. 2021, now with Ventura 13.0.1
My DAC - CORDA DACCORD ff runs fine over an ANKER 4 port USB Hub.

I have never heard fan noises, even in the summer when it was hot. I used a tool to turn up the fan, but it is still only audible very quietly.
Nice Greetings

I am interested to buy a PCIe expansion chassis.
Can you recommend one?
Thank you
Matt
I recommend installing this Eifidelity AXF-107 power-filtering card (the link is for the AXF-107):

For connection between the Mac and the Sonnet you use the WW USB 3.1 cable?
Thanks again
Matt
I installed a super-quiet (noiseless) fan in my 2-slot Echo Express⦠
After a macOS update, I found the WW 3.1 cable was creating problems with hand-shaking to my DAC through my USB 3.0 path from the USB 3.0 card installed in my chassis, through iGalvanic, to my DAC⦠probably due to too many protocol transitions⦠So now I use a high-quality TB-3 cable with a little ferrite bead strategically installed at both ends of the cable⦠I wish WW would make a TB cableā¦
@Agoldnear
Did you try to get rid of USB and try a PCIe DAC card in the Sonnet like this one:
Matt
No⦠I have a Focusrite Liquid Saffire 56 interface running on the Firewire bus ⦠Iām using a Sonnettech USB 3.0 + Firewire 800 card on my headphone reference system⦠The USB transmission path is extremely quiet and very well clocked⦠I use the UpTone USB 2.0 card attached to the iGalvanic USB 2.0 output⦠I modulate all PCMxxx to DSD128 via r8Brain in Audirvana⦠The Eifidelity card is a great inexpensive investment in lowering the power-plane noise⦠I think it even helps clean-up the MBP bus controllersā¦
