Missing artwork, options

Hi, I am on the Origin trial. When I set up initially, I noticed that maybe 50% ish of my albums had no artwork, including albums that had artwork in the folder already. So, I had some time today, and went through a lot of them manually, and most of them showed up in Audirvana (for Mac), just after downloading the artwork directly to the album folder in question. I also tried to do it via Audirvana, but it is painfully slow (up to 2 minutes for each one), for some reason, just adding a single, reasonably low bitrate jpeg from Discogs, and I have so many to do, that it would take too long to do.

I also noticed that when adding to the individual album folder directly, that sometimes Audirvana saw it immediately, and other times it would take a few minutes, and then in other cases, not at all, until I added them manually through Audirvana/edit metadata. Does Audirvana not grab album art and artist photos?

Is there any way to speed up this process? I have to do it all again for the artist photos, so hopefully there is a way?

Is there a way to stack, like in roon? If I look at my albums, where there is a double or triple CD rip, it shows it as 2 or 3 separate albums. It would be great if we could stack these, to tidy things up.

Finally, I am on an origin trial, but I think that the monthly Studio version may be a better fit, as I may add tidal back in later. Will I lose all the settings that I make, if I switch to Studio from origin? And does it work the same, as in the GUI side of things?

I’m running a MacBook Pro M3 Pro, 18GB RAM, and my music library is on an SSD SMB share, hung off the back of my Asus router. Sequoia 15.4. Audirvana for Max 2.5.21

Any help, much appreciated, thanks.

P.S I noticed that when Audirvana is open, even in the background, I have no control over the Macbook’s volume for anything until Audirvana is closed. Can this be changed? Thanks.

One of Roon’s most useful features, unfortunately not present in Audirvana. You need to go to the first CD, select all the tracks, click on the meta data editor then, (after prior checking Artist/Album title is consistent across all 3 CD’s) edit the “disc# x out of x” boxes, exit the disc number box to activate save dialog button and click save. Repeat for all 3 CD’s and you should be good. (See screenshot)

I use a seperate metadata editor to do this as I find it more efficient and get more reliable results (on rare occasions).

OK thanks for the reply, I’ll give it a try.

By the way, what metadata editor do you recommend for Mac? Thanks.

A free option is Musicbrainz Picard. A great Mac option, but a little bit unknown, is Amvedia Tag Editor. That’s a very powerful tool. Excel like interface for bulk editing, robust tag automation from different online databases. Customizable interface. It is very easy to start with, but it is more powerful once you educate yourself a bit.

I use Metadatics. It’s OK. Don’t have to use it for major metadata input as I purchase lossless/hires downloads from primarily Qobuz and occasionally NativeDSD or HD tracks. As such only have to correct sloppiness or inconsistency in purchased files.

Maybe someone who is a serial metadata editor can comment with the best editors they have used?

Hi again,

My trial was with Origin and finishes today, but I think I’m going to go with the monthly sub. do I need to uninstall origin and then install the other version, or does it detect what sub I have paid for? Also, will my artist photos backup work on the other version?

Thanks!
