Multichannel UPNP playback: Working and not working devices

Hi together!
I would like to share experiences with the new multichannel playback option for upnp devices. Since now, I only read of playback devices that don’t manage to play multichannel streams. I have a panasonic DMP BDT 700, and 5.1 streaming does not work by now (but works perfect in stereo), Are there any experiences with different hardware (positive or negative)? Who knows what works and what does not? I’m very interested …
Michael

There is no description of UPnP multichannel support in the DMP-BDT700 User Manual…
https://www.panasonic.com/content/dam/Panasonic/MEA/pdf-download/DMP-BDT700.pdf

Also, the only multichannel output from this player is from a Blu-ray Disc or DVD Video disc.

Thanks for your answer, but it does not target my question … By the way 5.1 streaming output with flac 5.1 files definitely works with the dmp bdt 700 (if you play it from the dmp bdt 700 itsself and a network source with the files or with Bubble UPNP as a Player on a phone and the same network file sources), but not with audirvana targetting the Panasonic using UPNP … but my question was, which experiences are there with different hardware? Anyone with a working solution for multichannel audio via UPNP?

Many thanks for the link - very interesting! But far beyond what I can afford an so very much better than the rest of my equipment.

This looks like it might possibly work, but you would have to ask someone who knows more detail to be sure:

There is no information about multichannel aufio files in the manual of the pioneer; If you look at Denon, Yamaha or Marantz AVRs you can always find in the manuals, that 2 channel audio files are supported when played from the home network. So most AVRs seem to be restricted to 2 channels if you want to you use UPNP / DLNA I think …

Another possibility (again I don’t know for sure) at half the price of the Pioneer:

I have also looked at mini-PCs that might receive a multichannel UPnP signal and send it to a multichannel receiver over HDMI, but I read about people trying to do this being frustrated with things like dropped connections. It seems as if the technology hasn’t attracted companies wanting to cater to this specific market yet - it’s still mainly for people who can afford relatively high end multichannel DACs.

I think the Panasonic dmp bdt 700 I own or a newer panasonic BD player with multichannel analog outputs is a good option - it can receive at least multichannel flac (tested with bubbleUPNP) or play them from network drives, but the ability seems to be restricted or not well implemented in some way. It can play multichannel files from network sources and output them to its multichannel analog outputs. Gapless play is a problem that could be solved by audirvana - if the multichannel upnp from audirvana to the panasonic would work. Of course you need an avr with analog multichannel inputs, like my “old” marantz amp … by now I play multichannel files from the Panasonic itsself but I have to use one long file with chapters if I want gapless Playback e.g. from a live album.

According to the manual (page 311) the Yamaha RX-V4a also supports 2 channel audio files only, like all the other AVRs I checked.

It appears generally for AVR’s the Ethernet interface is supporting NAS for file access using the AVR’s GUI… DRM is intrinsic to these receivers, which is why multichannel is only supported on HDMI.

Hi gys, I have a good news for you

This version of Studio on MacOs will work properly on Multichannel via UPNP (it was tested on Exasound device):

Really interesting,
will there be already a unix / Windows version? Would like to test it here.
Michael

The latest Windows version of Audirvāna Studio shouldn’t have this issue.

UNtill now, the Windows Version didn’t work with my Panasonic BDT in multichannel mode.

Can you send your debug info while you have selected it in Audirvāna?

You can get it in Audirvana Settings>My account.

From the BDT700 player User Manual linked above:

I already sent it last time we wrote I think … or is it a updated studio Version now?

@MichaP
There is nothing about UPnP support stated in the User Manual… Why do you think the player supports multi-channel UPnP protocol?
