Origin playback stops after a few minutes

I’m using KEF LS50 Wireless II speakers. This just started happening. Here’s the debug info. I also have a log file that I didn’t reproduce. I can’t find any fix in the previous threads about this problem.

Note the bold text in the UPnP information from the debug report below…

Wireless transmission is susceptible to interference and networked UPnP distribution is generally unreliable for digital-audio, as there is no error-correction of networked UPnP digital-audio data transmission. It is imperative that the signal does not get interrupted, as interruptions create loss of synchronization with your DAC… Creating a reliable wireless network transmission of UPnP protocol signals is not a trivial pursuit.

EDIT:
From the User Manual of the LS50WII…

  1. What router specifications does LS50 Wireless II support?

• IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, IPv4, IPv6, Dual-band 2.4 GHz / 5 GHz

• For better streaming stability, especially on hi-resolution music files, a 5 GHz Wi-Fi network with a router transmission speed of at least 1300 Mbps is recommended.

• Office, hotel, guest and public networks often feature additional security or
authentication methods which may prevent the speakers from connecting. You may need the help of the network administrator to configure the network to allow full functionality if using these kinds of networks.

• LTE routers/mobile hotspots will work, but may also consume a significant amount of battery power and mobile data.

  1. Can I use a mesh router?
    • Yes, we have tested the most popular mesh routers and they are working well with LS50 Wireless II. However, as there is not yet an industrial standard for mesh routers, each manufacturer may have their own meshing technology. If your mesh router does not work with LS50 Wireless II, make sure you have updated your router to the latest firmware or contact the manufacturer for solutions.

  2. How far apart can I place the two speakers?

• Wireless: up to 8 meters apart depending on your network condition. A congested network environment will have more interferences and may reduce this distance.

• Wired: Cable length up to 10 meters.

• Optimal listening distance between the speakers and the listener will depend on how far the Primary Speaker and Secondary Speaker are separated from each other. Try to aim for approximately the same distance between the Primary Speaker and Secondary Speaker and between the speakers and the listener.

The speakers broadcast on Channel 2 (2.4 GHz band). if your router overlaps this channel, it may cause issues with discoverability and connection. Go to your router settings and configure the 2.4 GHz channel to avoid overlapping with Channel 2.

:notes: :eye: :headphones: :eye: :notes:

I had no problems for a year until 2.5.19, after having issues before when I first got the speakers. KEF LS50W2 - Cure? For sudden stop, etc. But there’s no option now to try what I thought was the cure the last time, turning off the software volume control (which didn’t seem to matter since then, anyway).

Reverting to several earlier versions of Audirvana shows the same behavior. My router signal level to the speakers is “excellent.” I’ve restarted the speakers, MacBook, router, and the router pod, to no avail. I’ve tried the over-ride of the KEF settings, too.

I downloaded Roon to see if it works, and it does.

Roon uses a proprietary transmission protocol… not UPnP…

How do you measure the signal strength at the DAC/speaker?
5GHz signals will not travel as well through walls, etc… it is more susceptible to reflections and has a shorter effective transmission length in comparison to 2.4GHz…

Have you tried changing these settings?

DLNA 1.5: Yes
Native Gapless playback: Yes
Universal Gapless playback active: No
Missing events workaround: No
Can play native DSD: Yes
Volume Control: scalar
Number of channels: 2
Use as stereo device only: No

:notes: :eye: :headphones: :eye: :notes:

My router software can check the signal strength of the WiFi connection to devices. The router pod is in the same room as the speakers, and not obstructed.

Where are those settings? All I see for the KEFs is this:

Try changing some of the settings here, like “Override Manufacturer Official Settings” and “Fix for devices with unwanted playback stops”…

One thing of note here is that you have the ‘Maximum PCM Rate’ set as 384kHz when your DAC supports 192kHz and you have ‘Power of Two’ upsampling enabled… set the maximum sample-rate to 192kHzHowever, the DAC supports up-to native 5.6MHz 1-bit DSD (DSD128) = (5644.8kHz PCM) so leave the Maximum DSD Rate alone.

:notes: :eye: :headphones: :eye: :notes:

Thanks, but I had tried all of that before, to no avail.

So… The next troubleshooting step is to make a direct, simple Ethernet UPnP connection from the computer to your DAC… If playback is as expected, then you have a baseline reference…

:notes: :eye: :headphones: :eye: :notes:

Well, it appears I found the issue. Changing this one setting, to turn it off, made the problem disappear. And it now works fine with the KEF defaults and oversampling. Very, very strange - I had not changed that setting before the problem appeared. The only possible difference is that I have a KEF Kube8 MIE subwoofer attached…
