Premature track skipping 1.7.2

I think I briefly had a period with 1.6.2 when I could playback without tracks ending prematurely.

Tonight having disconnected/reconnected 1.7.2 I’ve had track skipping from Qobuz and GUI freezes (track skipped to next after around a few minutes, but mini display was frozen displaying previous track progress).

Can you remove the DSD upsampling in the audio output settings in Studio to check if you still get the issue?

DSD upsampling seems to be an issue, was doing well with this turned off. Any ideas why if the streamer supports DSD?

The tooltips are helpful, but is there an online guide for advanced upsampling settings etc yet?

The issue can come from multiple things. It can be the device that do not let us do the upsampling and is made to do it internally.

It can also be that you are asking him too much with this upsampling setting, have you tried with DSD 64?

Or it can also be network related since you are using UPnP to send the audio to your device.

I never got that.
If it is possible to play mastered files of the same higher resolution then the DAC is not the ‘problem’.

Whether this is an original recording, a remaster, an offline/online up/oversampling. If the data stream complies with the standards, then the DAC ‘sees’ no difference, does it?

What would be the reason that a DAC recognizes that the file has been resampled and that it prefers to do it itself? Unless something arises in the stream due to the resampling that the DAC does not ‘understand’.

I’ve tried increasing/reducing buffer size several times and it doesn’t really make much difference.

I’ve never seen a warning pop up but does Audirvana need to be able to buffer the whole track (may need more for classical/other genres with longer tracks)?

If it does I’d expect a popup/error saying not enough RAM available to buffer and process a particular track.

The odd thing is that the track will play for a minute or several minutes and just end prematurely so can’t see it being the playback device.

Yes, I have seen tracks stop if I switch to another open app eg a browser with background music but I’d not be downloading anything particularly demanding if at all, perhaps reading a news page and have seen this on wired and wireless networking.

I often feel AS buffers a whole track but some error relating to playback length causes the track to stop early.

Have you tried to completely remove upsampling in the audio output settings?

Yes, tends to be more stable as does Sox (Power of Two).

If more complex/different upsampling causes issues it would be good to try to establish if this is AS or the streamer if the tracks initially play for up to several minutes then stop without obvious cause.
