Qobuz Hi Res Compatibility with Audirvana 3.5

Hi, haven’t seen this question posted before. I’ve been happily running Audirvana Mac Version 3.5.50 on Mac Big Sur OS since pre-Covid times. Recently upgraded to a new DAC (Gustard A22) and noticed while streaming High Res files via Qobuz that “96 Khz” is displayed in lower left of my screen, but my DAC indicates the USB output is only 44.1. When I log into the Qobuz app directly, the DAC detects the same files as 96 Khz and streams them without a problem.

To be honest, I may have experienced this with my old Pro-Ject DAC but never took note until now. Are legacy Audirvana releases throttled down to 44.1 and that’s the limit, or is there a setting in this screenshot I’m overlooking? AudirvanaGustardSettings.jpg - Google Drive

To test it out I’ve installed Audirvana 3.5 on my Windows 11 NUC with a Loxjie D30 DAC connected.

Dire Straits - Money For Nothing album. It plays as 24/192 FLAC here. It shows on both the program and the DAC.

I didn’t change anything in Audirvana’s settings. So Audirvana’s isn’t limited to CD quality.

Thank you for the prompt response. I’ve done some more investigating, let me restate my question. I realize now that a High Res Qobuz album when selected shows up in Audirvana at the proper high res rate. But when I select an actual track to play, Audirvana throttles it down to FLAC 44.1 Khz when it sends it to the DAC. See comparative screengrabs attached. Is there a simple solution for this?

Windows uses WASAPI as default driver as Core Audio is a MacOS thing. However I’ve checked the settings in Audirvana here. And they are the same as yours as far as WASAPI and Core Audio use the same type of settings.

So I reckon it should just work.

Hmm how are the audio settings in MacOS itself? I know from my own experience they can be finicky with both my old 2017 MacBook Air and my M1 MacBook Pro. Check the Audio/Midi tool in MacOS itself.

Please paste your debug information report here, so folks can help the best possible… Some screen-shots of your playback settings screen and DAC input settings screen will also help…

Thanks much sands and agoldnear - dug a little deeper and can report this problem is solved! My streaming Qobuz account was set in the Audirvana dashboard to “Limit streaming quality to Lossless” - the next two toggle options are “Limit streaming quality to HiRes96kHz” and “to HiRes192kHz”. I selected 96 and that’s what the DAC successfully now detects. If I have a 335.1 Mbps download connection, is there any reason why I shouldn’t go all the way to 192kHz?

I don’t see a reason why you shouldn’t.

In my Audirvana 3.5 (Windows) I can choose the ‘HiRes 192kHz’ option for Qobuz. That works fine with any DAC I own. I have tried different DACs (Topping D90, DX9, Gustard A25, Holo Audio Cyan 2 ) and they all work perfectly with Qobuz with files with a samplerate of 192 kHz. Your Gustard A22 is also more than capable of playing on that samplerate. Your download connection also should not be a problem.

And of course in your Qobuz subscription itself (so not in Audirvana) the settings should be 192kHz too.

I am glad to hear that the problem has been solved. 192 kHz should not be an issue with your connection.

This is a great forum. Thanks to all for your advice.
