I would like to try Audirvana Studio. If I don’t like it, can I revert to the Legacy 3.5 version on MacOS?
Hi musiclover,
There is nothing to ‘revert’ to. You can install/use them both on a Mac or Windows PC.
‘Legacy’ Audirvana 3.5 and Audirvana Studio are two separate programs. As said, you can install them both separately and use both of them separately.
If you don’t like Audirvana Studio and uninstall it, Audirvana 3.5 will still be on your computer and still working. If you do not have Audirvana 3.5 installed anymore you can still download/install it from the Audirvana website if you look for ‘legacy versions’.
On my Windows PC I had both Audirvana 3.5 and Audirvana Studio installed and both worked fine, no problems. After I stopped my subscription to Studio (and uninstalled it) I bought Audirvana Origin and now I use both Audirvana 3.5 and Origin on my PC. No problem at all. This is the same for MacOS as well.
Thank you! That’s what I was hoping. My concern was that databases may be rebuilt and the 3.5 database overwritten. I have had this happen with other software.
What’s the advantage of having 3.5 and Origin? My goal is to manage streaming (Tidal) and my digital audio (CD or higher).
Audirvana 3.5, Origin and Audirvana Studio will built each database in a separate directory so nothing will be overwritten.
The advantage of having 3.5 and Origin is that 3.5 can do streaming (in my case Qobuz and can also upsample the stream to a higher PCM rate or to DSD) and Audirvana Origin can only play local libraries and does not do streaming. Audirvana Studio can do streaming.
Audirvana Origin can be bought as a perpetual license for a one time amount. Audirvana Studio is subscription based.
In my case I use Audirvana 3.5 for streaming (and upsampling) Qobuz. I use Origin a lot for my local library because Origin also has a folder view (3.5 has not) and Origin has some more choices in upsample/resample algorithms (r8brain) which 3.5 has not. Since I already have streaming in 3.5 I felt there is (for me personally) no added value in subscribing to Audirvana Studio (which I also did for a while). But of course your miles may vary
I still use 3.5 on an old iMac (2013) and it works beautifully.
Me too on an even older MBP (2010) with High Sierra
I’ve just received an offer to update from Audirvana 3.5 to Audirvana 4000.
I love using 3.5.50, it works perfectly for my needs.
So I don’t want to transfer to 4000 if that is a subscription service.
I can’t find ANY details of 4000 on the Audirvana website, so at the moment I’m assuming that 4000 is actually a version of the subscription based Studio or a version of Origin…
Is that correct, or is 4000 a free non-subscription update for 3.5 users
Please could Audirvana or one of you happy music lovers let me know?
Many thanks!
Hi @vintageaxeman,
We have done this to let you know a new version of Audirvāna is available for you.
We know that some of our customers do not know Audirvāna Studio or Audirvāna Origin exists, so you get this “update” window to inform you about it.
Thank you for your quick response!
Ok, I understand that you are just keeping us informed of other versions.
But please would you clarify…
Is the “Audirvana 4000” version another name for the “Studio Classic”, “Studio Access”, or the “Origin” version?
Thank you.
No, we had to put a number in order to get the update window.
Ok, I think I understand that. I think it must be my intelligence level rather than your explanation, so please forgive me!
I’m still not clear.
If I click on and install the 4000 update, will it be a brand new subscription based version of Audirvana, or will it change and update my Audirvana 3.5 program?
Thank you!
It will ask you to install Audirvāna Studio or Audirvāna Origin, which differs from the 3.5. The 3.5 will not be changed.
Understood. Thank you for clarifying.
I also do Qobuz streaming with 3.5.
May I ask you about your subjective impressions regarding SQ differences of 3.5 vs Studio with streaming from Qobuz?
Thank you
Without upsampling I did not hear any differences in SQ (Qobuz streaming) between 3.5 and Studio.
With Qobuz upsampling with SoX I also could not hear a difference between 3.5 and Studio.
With Qobuz upsampling with R8Brain (only available in Studio) I thought I could hear a slight difference, but I can’t say for sure. R8Brain probably sounds slightly different (not better or worse). So this is just a matter of taste.
Of course this is all highly subjective (my ears, my setup, my room) and the differences are small or inaudible.
But if you want to hear for yourself you always can try one month Studio next to 3.5. My ears are not your ears
@Antoine
Does 3.5.50 work with macOS Sequoia?
Thanks
Yes, 3.5.50 works perfectly with Sequoia.
I use Audirvana 3.5.50 on my iMac on Catalina, and on my MacBook Pro running Sequoia, and it also works with Lumin’s latest firmware release (18.1) for network use rather than through USB.
