I bought the 3.5 version a few years ago, and have been thinking what could be next on the Audirvana ladder, any suggestions. Thanks
Peter
You are around more than 2 years late
I might be 2 years late, but have had no problems with the 3.5 version (works fine, even now). I am upgrading my DAC in a few weeks time, so thought about an upgrade for my music playing software plus I am not a fan of subscription things, I want to own it outright
If you are not streaming, you can try for free Origin and buy the license after
What would be good would be a lifetime license of Audirvana Studio. I also don’t like subscriptions to software and avoid them wherever possible.
But I’ve been with Qobuz for a while now, so I also stream. But as I said: no software subscription. Never.
You are right. Furthermore Audirvana Studio can be installed on 2 computers, but you need to activate/switch the licence. I have a desktop computer connected to my main Hifi system and a Macbook for the second one. I spent my time switching this licence. And because of all the integrations (local music + Apple Music + Qobuz + artists/albums informations + internet radios), the library is not pure anymore.
So now :
→ I’m using Qobuz App when outside.
→ At home, I reverted to 3.5 for Qobuz integration only (no local music)
→ I chose another music player for my local music
I am just one of those people I suppose, that likes to keep ahead of the game. I am a retired person and now have a severe mobility health problem, meaning I hardly ever go out now, and playing music and looking at gear, is one of the ways I entertain myself. I am NOT a fan of a subscription based app (never had one), this is prob why I have stuck with Audirvana, over say Roon. The reason I am thinking of upgrading is I have newish speakers , speaker cable and interconnect in the system , and a new DAC coming soon (Ferrum Wandla)
If you are not a fan of subscription based apps you could try Audirvana Origin. For Origin you can buy a perpetual license for a one time amount (just like you did with Audirvana 3.5).
Origin can NOT stream and can only play your local library. If you want to stream as well you can install both (Audirvana 3.5 and Audirvana Origin) on your system and still use 3.5 for streaming.
For me that works fine (I use 3.5 for streaming and upsampling Qobuz and Origin for my local library).
You can try out Origin for free before you buy.
