2 Macs, 1 Melco, 1 mess (or Audirvana 3.2 v 3.5)

I store my music on a 6Tb Melco. I have two systems using this source for files. My office system uses Audirvana Plus 3.2.20 on a 2014 iMac (Catalina) (Wireless) to play music locally and for me to tag, correct metdata and add music files to the Melco as downloads or rips. My main system uses a Mac Mini 2018 (Catalina) (Ethernet) with Audirvana 3.5. Both are set to Auto Sync. I regularly generate Playlists on 3.2 and export them to the Melco to import on the Mac Mini in 3.5. This works initially but with ever auto sync the Playlists are weeded until there are no files left in them on the Mac Mini.

If I delete the 3.5 database restart and reimport all the playlists everything starts out happily enough. With every change I make to a metadata tag or adding a new file to the Melco through the 3.2 on the iMac, the MacMini/3.5 takes exception and resyncs complete folders (very, very, bery slowly) and deprecates the Playlists as it goes.

Once this starts 3.5 no longer has any idea about what constitutes a recent file or one added this month.

Any one experienced using two copies in Audirvana in two locations with the same music server?

I don’t want to use 3.5 on both machines as Metadata touch up is a pain in 3.5 but a cinch in 3.2.

Hello @davidp,

Can you send me a copy of the “Debug Info” of your Mac Mini Catalina? You can get it in Audirvana Settings>General>Debug Info

Note: By clicking on the Debug Info button, Audirvana automatically copies all its content, all you have to do is paste it in response to this message

Thanks for the response Damien - Debug follows - I’ve redacted my full registration name for security. Only the Mac Mini and TV show as devices at the Melco and Devialet were not switched on.

When you do the export of your playlist to your Melco, do you put the playlist in one of those folders?

Hi Damien - I export the Playlists to a folder called ‘data’ which is at the ‘share’ level. Once the playlists are imported by 3.5 I then delete the .m3u8 files.

I’ve just noticed a further update on 3.5 now has removed a selection of files from Rock&Pop which were previously there. Files searchable on the iMac 3.2 and going missing gradually from the 3.5MacMini installation. I did try a full erase and rebuild but the process began again. Hope this helps, David

Do you have an indexing setting enabled in your Melco that could start this sync of Audirvana?

I use MinimServer 2.0.16 on the Melco - files are manually rescanned from time to time after a download or update from my iMac using MinimWatch.

I don’t know how MinimWtach works but it may rescan the whole drive and Audirvana detect this as a change which explain why you get scanning.

I can ask SImon over on https://forum.minimserver.com - he is the ‘author’ of MInimServer - if he’s come across this issue before. I’ve been using 3.2 on my iMac and MinimServer on the Melco in combination for over two years without issue. Rescanning the Melco with MinimServer never sets of an Audirvana resync on 3.2. Is there some reason why 3.5 is reacting?

Hi Damien - I’ve had a reply from Simon at MInimServer who states:
“A MinimServer rescan updates only the MinimServer internal cache files. These files are not stored on the Melco music shared folder and would not be visible to Audirvana.”
I could roll back to 3.2 on the Macmini but would lose the search function from the remote app if I understand correctly.

Before you make any playlist export, have you made a change in the metadata of the files that are in 3.2? Changing metadata triggers the sync in Audirvana 3.5 if you are doing metadata editing since it change the track.

No I was very carfeul about this - I added the folders from the Melco to 3.5 and only when things had stopped syncing did I export and import the playlists to 3.5. Everything was fine until resyncing when tracks began to disappear from the playlists. I’ve not tagged or changed files in those playlists.

Removed 3.5 from the MacMini and am now running two copies of 3.2 which are in sync and updates made to tracks on the iMac system are very slowly appearing on the other. No degradation of playlist content. Why is this happening in 3.5?

Hi David… I am researching using my Melco with my Mac mini… My Googling led to this page, and I thought I would try to squeeze out a little info from you, if you are feeling charitable… A friend has loaned me his Melco, in an attempt to sell it to me… Apparently my USB DAC (on a Parasound pre-amp) is not compatible with the mobile app… So I need to find a way to interface with the music on the Melco, without using the button on the front panel. That is no fun… I am very curious how you have your system connected, to be able to use Audirvana with the Mac & Melco. Is it something like: Melco>ethernet cable>MAC… Melco>USB>DAC… I have not had that light bulb moment yet, when it comes to setting this up… Cheers!
