Honestly, I donāt think anyone here was attacking Damien. Or if they were, I missed it. And I hope no statement of mine was interpreted as an attack. But I think thereās a general unhappiness that our listening was interrupted. And my specific unhappiness that something advertised as not needing an internet connection requires an internet connection.
Ah, geez. I almost forgot. Consider yourself flamed. (Did I do that right?)
I donāt think people are complaining about how the response to this issue has been handled. What they are complaining about, quite justifiably in my opinion, are the design decisions that have been made that have resulted in an application that delivers purely offline functionality that is beholden to online checks. I want to play my local music files with a locally installed piece of software, without interruption. I donāt think that is too much to ask. I know I could do it no problem back in the 90s/2000sā¦
Finally back up for me here in the UK. Iāll be interested to see how Audirvana handles the fall out about this. Thanks to @Damien for his efforts and updates.
Looking at the posts here, Iām not the only one experiencing the same issues with Origin. Everytime I shut down my macmini music server and restart Iām getting a request to log into my account
Well Vexed
Why does Audirvana Origin need internet access at all?
I bought Audirvana Origin with the understanding I was purchasing the non-subscription product. That is, Audirvana Origin should NEVER need to check an account/subscription server to check my account details. Once I have purchased it, I should own it. I should not be a subscriber of the software.
Please explain the false Audirvana Origin product description?
To all commenters here commenting that āit is unacceptableā, āwe should be reinbursedā and the like: spoilt little children. Start behaving like adults.
Yes, it is in inconvenience. No, this should not have happened and I expect to have a fail safe for these kind of service interruptions from a third party in a next update of Audirvana.
But thatās about it. Stuff happens in IT land, everyone should have had some experience with that either at home or at work. As long as it is fixed and prevented, thatās fine. It took less than 24 hours to have it fixed, so happy music playing again.
I have not seen a single music software without issues even Spotify and none of them are perfect for everything.
I am also using Roon and PlexAmp, and have Spotify and Qobuz apps in case one is not working properly as expected. I still can play CD, Vinyl and even tape and all my selected tracks are saved in a DAP. My music is sitting in a NAS with protections against digital rotting, copied directly in three separate locations, and back up in the cloud and locally (3-2-1 rule).
Yes, issues happen, so one should get prepared at the level they want and not expect others to do it for them.
@audirvana team, I totally understand that these things happen.
Please consider a more elegant way of handling problems like this should they occur in the future. A simple message on the login modal like āWeāve identified a problem and we are currently working to fix it. The following features may be unavailable {{whatever it impacts}}ā. There will always be people that are unreasonably annoyed but that is the cost of doing business in the world of software developmentā¦
Yesterday evening, some AudirvÄna users couldnāt access their software for hours. We are sorry for this incident, as we know how frustrating it can be to be unable to access your music when you want to, and we take this incident very seriously.
The incident was caused by a third-party service from Microsoft. We rely on this Microsoft authentication web service to check our users have a valid license or subscription. This system, used by thousands of companies, unexpectedly went down for the first time. The problem was fully resolved by midnight Paris time. We are in close communication with Microsoft to ensure such a failure does not recur in the future.
Although AudirvÄna can run offline, those connected while using AudirvÄna received an incorrect response from the server, indicating an invalid license or subscription, so the offline mode was no longer possible.
We deeply regret the inconvenience this incident caused. We are already actively working on a potential backup solution. While such a highly unlikely technical failure is not expected to occur again, we are committed to being prepared for any eventuality.
I purchased Origin and have a Studio subscription.
Today I use Studio.
From what I understood from the explanation, when you accessed the first time and received the wrong license information, there would be no point in disconnecting the computer from the internet for Audirvana to work offline.
I think this is what the Audirvana team should solve, in case the problem appears again.
Confused why would offline mode not work?
Iāve been playing music as usual, without needing to log into anything for some time now⦠Why I bought origin⦠Itās yet to fail.
