Airplay problem

Since I updated to MAC OS 11.6, I can no longer connect airplay from Audirvana 3.5.50 to my network player. There was no problem before that. The output to the internal speaker and USBDAC is possible. Can anyone tell me how to deal with this?

Can you do the following procedure?

  1. Option/alt click on the loudspeaker icon on the menu bar

  2. Select AirPlay in the selection menu that appears

  3. You can then select AirPlay in Audirvana Audio Device Settings.

If the loudspeaker icon is not displayed on the menu bar, you can show it by going to System Preferences, Sounds page, and set the “Show loudness in menu bar” option.

In addition, be sure iTunes is not set to use the Airplay device.

I can select my network player on AirPlay from the loudspeaker icon on the menu bar, but when I select a song and click the play button, it freezes while it goes to load the file.

Can you send us a copy of the “Debug Info” when you have this issue? You can get it in Audirvana Settings>General>Debug Info

You are using UPnP, not Airplay. Do you see your Airpaly device in the sound preferences settings of your Mac?

You need to select AirPlay, not the device by name in the network section below. The way you selected it now, it will use UPnP.

If you can use UPnP it’s even better than AirPlay. You just need to get it to work. Have you tried to change the “use RAW PCM” in the settings?

Also reduce the pre-load cache to 4000MB. You have reserved too much memory for Audirvana caching. Not much left for the operating system to work with.

@Sanki it would make sense for you to try the new Audirvana Studio. It should work well with your KEFs over UPnP and you can expect sound quality improvement over AirPlay.

You can’t use AirPlay to play high resolution files. You need to use UPnP. It would make sense for you to try Audirvana Studio and test UPnP functionality with your speakers.

I have a Mac and this helped me discover “The Secret” to AirPlay and Audirvana, as well as the UPnP secret: power-cycle the app!

When Audirvana launches, it reads the available streaming routes from at least the Sound Preferences pane and any devices transmitting UPnP/DLNA over the network (Wi-Fi or wired or blended like mine). So, it needs to “see” AirPlay on launch. Otherwise, you have to quit, select by clicking on the AirPlay device in your Sound Preference pane’s output tab, and then relaunching Audirvana.

Not exactly user-friendly, but being an audiophile generally isn’t, is it? ha ha ha ;^)

Normally you shouldn’t have to restart Audirvāna Studio to see the Airplay device. When you select it in the sound panel, you should see it in Audirvāna Studio as available.
