Alternative to Sonos Amp

Hi,

I have nw been an Audirvana user for a couple of months and I’m very satisfied. I come from ROON, but first of all, soundquality is much better with Audirvana, second, the userface is much more simple, still more than enough for my use, and easier to navigate around in.

I use Audirvana, primarely listening to my local library, using my Nagra Streamer connected to the DAC in my McIntosh MCD12000, in my livingroom. Now I really would like to use Audirvana in my bedroom, kitchen and bathroom as well. Today I have Sonos in those rooms and they are not compatible with Audirvana, so I’m ready to change them to something else. My Sonos Amp in my bedroom are connected to a couple of really nice ProAc Response 1SC, so for a start, what recommendations do you have here? I have been looking on the WiiM Amp Pro, it looks like it’s Audirvana compatible and I will probably get better sound than with my Sonos AMP.

In my bathroom and kitchen I have Sonos ERA 100 and Sonos MOVE, alternatives to those?

Thanks in advance :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi @emarkussen, I replaced a Sonos Amp last year with a WiiM Amp Pro and I’m delighted. Works great with Audirvana via Google Cast (aka Chromecast).

While clearly the WiiM Amp Pro is not audiophile-grade gear, it is absolutely as good or better than the Sonos Amp. Incredible value for money, check it out.

I replaced a Sonos One (predecessor to the Era 100) with the Audio Pro A10 MKII Wireless Multiroom Speaker, WiiM Edition. That’s an upgrade over the Sonos One and it runs the WiiM OS, so it works great with Audirvana via Google Cast.

You might consider the Audio Pro C10 MKII Wireless Speaker, WiiM Edition for your kitchen if you’re looking for more ‘oomf’ than the A10.

Great Press250, thanks a lot for the recommondations  Can I ask you why you are streaming via Chromecast? You’re not using DLNA/UPnP?

If you have ProAc response speakers, you certainly should want to pair it with much better amplification. It is almost a shame that you would pair such lovely speakers to lesser amplification. But o well.

I’d recommend looking at a nice Primare amplifier with the Prisma streaming board, like the I15 Prisma.

Hi jmtennapel,

Yes, I know, but the setup is only for my bedroom and my ProAc is kind of left overs. Years ago I used them as primary speakers on stands, then as surroundspeakers in my home cinema, but one upgrade took another, so that’s why I use them in my bedroom now. I really don’t want to sell them and would be sorry if they were not used

So I would definately consider the Primare or others, if I got the space for it, but the amp needs to be on the wall and sit just underneath or above the TV on the wall.

No particular reason, tbh, Chromecast worked and I’ve stuck with it. Audirvana ‘sees’ two versions of each WiiM endpoint, one Chromecast and one UPnP, so you can select either one.
