Amazon Music HD integration

I am not sure… It was SHOWING that it is playing at high res (higher then 44.1/16) and my DAC was displaying the correct resolution too during playback, if I recall correctly… Bottom line, I was told that particular album is mis-labelled (and continues to be so even TODAY) as UltraHD when it is really not… this all according to Amazon Executive Techsupport that was totally useless other than sending me emails saying we are waiting and waiting and waiting for response from the Music team.

My experience with Amazon HD before I discontinued was that most of the time it would stream at the advertised rate but not always, and it was never predictable as to when it would or not. Another thing that lead me to leaving was a lack of album integrity - lots of albums show up as a mix of HD and UltraHD tracks when the album was never been released as UltraHD - it appears they mix tracks from other releases e.g. greatest hits.

The statement “Maybe only the purchased files are full res. That’s similar to Qobuz.” confuses me - I’ve never purchased files from either and I’ve streamed buckets of high res from both.

+1 for me. Just started the 3 months Amazon HD trial, and the Ultra HD quality, if passed through Audirvana, would be better or on par with my current Tidal/MQA, that I would immediately decommission for Amazon Ultra… 20€/m vs 12€… plus an easier integration with all my home Alexas, and real time lyrics…

Please Audirvana… I see one year already passed by from your first “we are working on it”…

Many thanks

BTW, I did find out Amazon HD service supposedly mis-tags albums per their tech support - says it is a higher resolution than it really is… As an example, the tech support told me Norah Jones’ Come Away With Me (?) album is tagged as UHD (24/196?) when it is really not, supposedly. No way for me to confirm… So I gave up paying premium to Amazon HD when its content is not guaranteed to be truly beyond CD level. I just pay for Amazon Umlimited. So much simpler as you do have access to the “HD” albums but it does not tell you what resolutions they are in. Hope this makes sense.

I did purchase the original Norah Jones’s Come Away with Me SACD… so a 24/96 version should really exist (while I did rip my own SACD to DSD format, DSF64). No way for me to verify Amazon HD+ claims, yet I think they do not want to destroy customers trust - their major, obsessive, asset - for such a fake…

Indeed… here is their response after almost 2 months of “investigating” by Amazon Music Executive Level Tech Support :

"As previously mentioned, after our technical team analyze your experience, they were able to identify the problem is with the badge of the album "Come Away With Me " by Norah Jones and that the highest definition available for the album will be HD not UHD.

Currently, we don’t have additional information to share with you."

I believe this album is still listed as UHD (24/196?) on Amazon Music ?

Also, @jlm70, I am very curious how you ripped the SACD to DSD format ? I have a few SACD albums I’d like to do that on but online resources have been challenging and requires older PS3’s /Firmware or older Sony BluRay players , neither of which I have. Thanks !

+1 Amazon HD integration. Their player doesn’t support ASIO which is a big deal to me due to not having auto sample rate changing.

guys, i tested amazon HD thoroughly since it released. It sucks …
HD is not real hires all the time.
it does not work through Audirvana, so the SQ gap from listening tracks from your library is huge and disappointing.

My reco is don’t waste your time with Amazon Music: this is not their key business, they will always be behind others. Looking for poor quality for free … ? SPotify works like a charm!

Get yourself a Qobuz subscription instead, this is where we all end up and they just reduced their pricing…

Hello,
Any update ?

I’ve been using a free trial of Amazon music ultra hd. It’s nice and their prices are very competitive.
Can we have a timeline if you plan on adding the service to your software ?
Thanks

I wonder if the limitation lies with the efforts of Damian or the cooperation of Amazon. Is Amazon open to an API to external players?

If you look at who Amazon integrates with it becomes pretty clear they are only interested in hardware vendors whose products they can sell on their site. There isn’t a non-hardware associated software player that I know of that they have integrated with.

Any news on Amazon HD integration?
I’ve unsubscribed Tidal for Amazon HD (that with Prime is more convenient, and is more innovative in terms of managed codecs - now supporting even Dolby Atmos)

Today I only found out about Amazon offering hires music (ultra HD), price wise this is the cheapest hires music offering and I can imagine will become very popular. I’m going to sign up for it later today for the free trial to test.

Are there any plans to support Amazon music in audirvana ?

Hello @AvaGoodDay,

Because they are Amazon, we believe their new HD service will contribute to promote quality audio, and we support that in general. So we are open to integrate their service into Audirvana, but that is the only thing we can say so far.

Thanks for the reply, well having played a few tracks from Amazon HD music I’m totally blown away, the sound is so open and lively, they appear to have the catalog of Tidal without MQA which I’m no fan of. I think Amazon might soon be shaking up the music streaming scene like they’ve done with the way we now shop - default being Amazon. Tidal and Qobuz had better watch out because Amazon HD music is what I’ve wanted, no hip hop forced on me, no MQA and a full catalog of popular music instead of a classic slant like on Qobuz with a limited catalog. No compression / FLAC files and not only all that they’re cheaper than the competition, I’m sold already.

I am currently in the trial period with your amazing software and like the previous contributor, I would like to add my support for including the streaming of Amazon Music HD. I have been totally impressed with all the Ultra HD music I have played on the service, but as you know, your software is the only way to get the highest quality with my digital streamer. The Amazon catalogue is expanding all the time and more effort has been put into directing users to the highest quality tracks through specialised playlists, etc. I think it would be a very worthy addition to your product.

Add me to the list of Audirvana owners wanting Amazon HD music support. This service does something Tidal simply doesn’t allow–you can download your music and listen offline on your COMPUTER, not just on a portable device. You can even use a flash drive to store the downloaded files. The minute I realized you could do this on Amazon, I ran out and bought a 256 gb flash drive and dumped Tidal the same day.
