Apple Homepad Playback

I recently started an Audirvana trial subscription. I’m currently running Audirvana on my MacBook Air and initially have a problem with Audirvana recoginizing my Homepod. Audirvana Support gave me a work-around which now allows me to stream directly to the Homepod. The problem I now have is the Airplay selection does not remain in the playback settings and I have to reset this via the work-around everytime I open Audirvana. Is there anyway retain the airplay selection in playback settings?

Hello @Fergus9,

which version of MacOS do you have?

I’m currently running Mac OS Big Sur, version 11.2.1

Audirvana Support work-around as follows;

There is a regression not fixed by Apple since OS X 10.11 (El Capitan) that makes the AirPlay device unavailable to any application other than iTunes (it is not even listed in Audio Midi Setup application). Until Apple fixes this, there is a workaround to get it back:

  1. Option/alt click on the loudspeaker icon on the menu bar

  1. Select AirPlay in the selection menu that appears

  2. You can then select AirPlay in Audirvana Audio Device Settings.

If the loudspeaker icon is not displayed on the menu bar, you can show it by going to System Preferences, Sounds page, and set the “Show loudness in menu bar” option.

In addition, be sure iTunes is not set to use the Airplay device.

Can you send me a copy of the “Debug Info”? You can get it in Audirvana Settings>General>Debug Info

Note: By clicking on the Debug Info button, Audirvana automatically copies all its content, all you have to do is paste it in response to this email

Best Regards,

Audirvana Support Team

Can you post your debug info so we can see if Audirvana identify your HomePod or not at all?

Are you using your HomePod in Airplay with iTunes outside of Audirvana from time to time?

Yes, I regularly use my Homepod with itunes and for various podcasts and Zoom calls. I simply select the Homepod from the Airplay dropdown menu and it plays.

Can you check if you have iTunes opened with your HomePod selected while you try to select it in Audirvana?

In itunes, my Homepod remains selected until unselected. In Audirvana, the Homepod selection (shown as Airplay) disappears everytime I exist Audirvana. I then need to do the previously mentioned work-arounf to stream to my Homepod each time I use Audirvana. This is a real PIA.

We understand the frustration about this Airplay connectivity behavior, this is due to the policy of Apple that iTunes is prioritary for Apple over all other software that would use Airplay if the device is selected in iTunes…
