Composer on ONE tracks (Not all) WF Bach, maybe AS is defining [Artist] = [Composer] , the real concern is there is no consistency it happens sometime but not all times.
You may be right as you are using Studio⦠is it coming from streaming.
I use Origin.
Have you done the searches I suggested
I can spend many happy hours searching and correcting.
(I aporeciate your meticulousness regarding tagging and metadata⦠me too. I do all the changeās the moment I add an album⦠and Iāll be straight with you⦠itās about time those bloody music lot got together and agreed on formats for their files.)
Not wishing to be rude but I have no burning desire to do that , my library is curated in JRiver before being imported into Roon or Audirvana , I can assure you there are no Composers in the Artists tag , certainly not in the quantities to cause the scrambled sorting in AS
I am once again beginning to regret my renewal of AS
A simple config to switch off the lookup would fix the issue and the in file tags could be used.
The other alternative is that the MusicBrainz ID is looked up and stored in the db and then actively looked up as the Album page opens , only you can see what is happening
Bottom line the file tags would appear to be being ignored and causing sorting difficulties as a result. I donāt think adjusting the in file [ArtistSort] tag would help if itās being ignored.
Iām probably quite far off what youāre talking about here, since what Iām looking at seems pretty obvious, but on the slight chance it might be helpful:
In the remote app (what Iām seeing since Iām in Linux right now, but the remote of course also works with the Windows and Mac versions) under Settings > Local, if you scroll down a bit there are two toggle switches, one to āRetrieve metadata missing in audio file from MusicBrainzā¦,ā and the other to āSave recovered track ID in your local audio files metadata.ā Are both these toggle switches off and you still have the issue?
Thanks for the suggestion but both toggles are OFF and have been all along , I did already know about them and adjust them accordingly.
If you recall at the initial launch of AS the MusicBrainzID lookup and store to file was on by default , those switches were put in after the outcry of AS adjusting everyoneās files. (Mine included !!). Now the ID is stored in the library.
As far as I can see there is no config to adjust how AS derives [ArtistSort] . I would have expected FirstName, LastName or LastName, FirstName as obvious options , but it looks like its a MusicBrainz lookup with no user adjustment other than manually adjusting each one, which is written back to the file and then affects any other music players using the same file base (in my case JRiver and Roon) !!
Name in my tags are semi-colon delimited if multiple artists , AS converts them to comma delimited . Having in this case 7 line items for one Artist means that you canāt see all of his output under one Artist Icon. And this is not an isolated example its common to see 2 entries First Name first then a second LastName first.
In Classical music (and I would venture in Jazz) multiple artists is quite common, more so than in Rock
Itās not a good design IMHO
I suppose I could fix this one instance by making all Name sort = āAlfred Brendelā but I am loathed to hack the AS db
I recall doing a little database hackery in the past, so perhaps thatās helped me.
More generally what I have done is (1) place my albums in directories named the way I want - for example, I have some albums in directories named for a composer, some for conductor, some for artist, some for an artist whoās the subject of a tribute album; (2) make file location the primary sorting criterion for albums; and (3) mostly use the album display page as my way to find local music.
That enables me to use whatever feature is most memorable to me about an album, no matter how inconsistent from album to album, to sort it.
Edit: Just mentioning this as something I do personally, not something others should have to do to get their artists and albums sorted the way they want.
@Antoine any thoughts on the above , to be honest its a mess that makes AS just about unusable.
I also found the same issue with Sviatislav Richter spread out over 8 or more artists.
Is there no way to split a semi colon delimited list to extract the individual artist from the in-file Tags rather than importing a comma delimited list rom MusicBrainz
In this condition, I am not joking about a REFUND, as it stands at the moment I have stopped using AS , it is simply not fit for purpose !!
Hi @Antoine I may also have similar difficulties in managing the sorting by artist on Audirvana. I am using Audirvana Studio, Iām currently working on organizing the extensive discography of some artists, just like Sade, in relation to Audirvanaās sorting display. For example, Thom Yorke, as an artist, has a diverse body of work that includes:
Thom Yorke: (as an artist)
1. Groups
Radiohead
Albums
Singles
Atoms For Peace
Albums
Singles
2. Solo Works
Thom Yorke
Albums
Singles
Dr. Tchock
Remixes
3. Live Albums
4. Collaborations
Featured Tracks
Soundtracks
I would appreciate any ideas and guidance on how to effectively structure Thomās categories within Audirvana for a better user experience. Thank you !
I provided an answer in another thread where Lincoln asked the identical question. If you search in his posts it should be easy to find. If not, ask and when Iām back home later today Iāll find it.
If itās the one suggesting search by folder I found it.
I gave up folders 15 yrs ago, why have a dog and bark yourself
The software should be configurable to display the library based on in file tags. AS is ignoring my tags and showing my stuff thatās not in my tags. Multiple artists are not split so an artist who collaborates is split by each collaboration and nowhere is he shown as an individual. The example is shown in the post 17 days ago ?
I was answering Lincolnās specific question. Sorry it didnāt meet your particular needs.
I can only say in my personal experience, when I have thought Audirvana isnāt seeing my metadata tags, closer inspection has revealed it was my metadata that was off, not Audirvanaās handling. In your situation that may not be the case - if Audirvana is mishandling your metadata I donāt have experience on which to base suggestions for a fix.
