Audio Scan changes in Audirvana 2.11.7

Hi everyone!

Can anyone help me better understand the recent Audio Scan update in Audirvana? I’m using both Qobuz Lossless and Qobuz Hi-Res 192kHz as streaming options within Audirvana (a few days ago there was an update that supposedly improved the Audio Scan feature, 2.11.7)

Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 show the same track, one streamed in Lossless and the other in Hi-Res 192kHz directly from Qobuz. The first one is being detected as MP3, while the second one shows up correctly as 24-bit FLAC. I remember scanning the same song in Lossless not long ago and it was correctly identified as 16-bit FLAC, now it’s not. Obviously, there is an abrupt and premature rolloff in both.

Scanning other tracks, I recall Audirvana used to detect them as 16-bit 44.1kHz even when they had a rolloff or premature cutoff. My impression is that since the update, more tracks on Qobuz Lossless are being flagged as MP3 than before.

So, did the scan become more precise or stricter after the update?

Additionally, in Fig. 3, I’m showing that the same track reports 787 kbps when played through USB Audio Player Pro linked to Qobuz Lossless.

Fig. 4 and Fig. 5 show a comparison between Qobuz Lossy and Qobuz Lossless.

Thank you in advance for any feedback

I suggest using a known high-resolution recording as a reference… A file that you know the provenance of, and the master encoding resolution… Without good provenance information you will have to trust the sample-rate and bit-depth of the analysis as being correct… For example a recording that you can verify as being a native 96k or 192kHz master…

There is no guarantee that what you think may be a high-resolution file is sourced from the high-resolution master.. It actually may be an up-sampled iteration of a lower bit-depth and sample-rate master file.

Solved with Audirvana 3.0.2

Idiot scan is not working like it should since it was updated, still waiting to get it fixed, most of it is wrong. Even in your picture arrow are there but should not. should be 22050…

I’m glad I’m not the only one who has noticed some anomalies.

I find that sometimes the scan is so blisteringly fast. So fast, I second guess if it’s actually doing it accurately. Maybe it’s “new and improved”….

I am also noticing that it is flagging (more than usual) tracks within the same disc as mp3, when others are “CD” quality.
