This is now the 2nd time I tried the trial version, and just when I’m about to click “Buy,” a deal-breaking bug pops up.
First time I trialed this software was a couple of years ago, when I was trying to find something to replace iTunes as my music app. Audirvana Origin seemed to be just what I wanted. The price was high, but otherwise it seemed to work well. Until I tried playing some of my Pink Floyd albums and learned that it couldn’t do proper gapless playback. The trial ran out before it could get fixed, so I gave up and eventually bought JRMC, which is nowhere near as polished as Audirvana, but at least worked.
Now, I learned that v3 just released, so tried another trial. Gapless playback works now! Great, ready to buy. Except now the remote app doesn’t work properly. It did at first, but on the 2nd day, it no longer shows the library on the remote app, and keeps sending a “request error.”
After hours of troubleshooting, I finally figured out that it’s due to the “Group albums under Album Artist” option. Checking that breaks not only the remote app, but I also discovered another bug: it breaks the letters on the right side of the main app. Clicking on “P,” for example, jumps past Album artists beginning with P and instead lands somewhere further down. In my case in the “S” artists.
Now, I guess this isn’t game-breaking, since I can just leave that option turned off. But I do like that option since I find it much easier to navigate. But it is frustrating that such an expensive piece of software has such serious and obvious bugs. It really makes me hesitant about purchasing, since who know what else is broken below the surface.
I still have 9 days to decide though. So we’ll see. Otherwise it’s back to JRMC.
I have the reason for your issue, but better yet, here’s a simple solution: On the remote, under Local, scroll all the way to the right to Folders View and select that. Now you see your artists and albums arranged just as you have them stored on the drive.
OK, the reason for the problem: Audirvana (thank goodness in my view, yours of course may differ) doesn’t substitute its own judgment for yours. That means if you want to see recordings sensibly arranged by album artist, you have to be sure you’ve got correct album artist metadata entries for all those recordings. Don’t want to fool with metadata? Then use Folders View or (I say this without any criticism at all intended, it’s just the obvious alternative) use another player that doesn’t wait for you to tell it how you want things arranged.
It is the IOS version of the remote. I was using the default sorting criterion, album artist. So long as I didn’t check the “group albums” option, the remote showed the library.
Support asked you a question. Why do you say they are not helping you?
For me Audirvana is an indispensable product to deliver pristine bits to my digital audio pipeline. It is ridiculous the amount of detail/insignificant interface issues brought as complaints, when the real essentials are stellar.
I have been an Audirvana customer of permanent license Audirvana’s products for over a decade and for the past year a Studio subscriber. Couldn’t be happier and I wish that Audirvana will continue to maintain its core product mission intact, the rest… is fluff.
Would it be possible for you to record your screen while you reproduce your issue? I want to reproduce this on my end before sending the information to our developer.
