Audirvāna hangs streaming to renderer

@Antoine, thank you for getting back to me on this.

I’m glad to hear about the scrolling issue, although it beggars belief that a basic function like this wouldn’t have been brought up, nor been noticed at some point in the beta process.

Please do tell me what the dedicated filter view is, and how to achieve it, that enables me to see all of my artists, in list form, no space-wasting images, and then, when I select one, to see all of their albums, in the adjacent column, NOT the same column, in list form, no space-wasting images. I would love to know how to reproduce this efficient functionality. It would make browsing my 8TB of locally-stored music MUCH less painful. With it, in version 3.2.20, I am able to locate an album in a matter of seconds. It takes hundreds of time as long, when using Štüdīø. If I use list format, for viewing, I am unable to easily BROWSE all of my music. I have to scroll through a complete list. If I use thumbnail format, I am back with space-wasting images.

I will try to lower the memory buffer setting to 4000MB, per your recommendation and report back. Thank you for the suggestion.

Finally, I’m not saying, nor have I ever said, that I expected an instant solution. I did, however, expect transparent, clear communication. It is the cornerstone of both good service and well-managed expectations. A simple, quick response, at some point, would have been helpful. For that matter, late last week, you could simply have said, “I am trying to reproduce your issue(s). You should hear back from me within a week or so. By the way, column browser isn’t worth the time for us. Why on earth would you need that?!” Like a flash of light, you’d have saved me the headache and frustration of trying to coerce a response from you, in order to confirm that you were still communicating, not to mention the offense to other users’ delicate sensibilities, engendered by my efforts. You probably also would have saved yourself a glut of post notifications, because of me. See how that all could have worked? Communication really is key, and there’s no such thing as too much of it.

I could mitigate the hangs by disabling Roon_Server.

Chris

Thanks, @Chris2.

Unfortunately, Roon is not a part of my signal chain. I tried it years ago, and I was not a fan. To the best of my knowledge, MicroRendu doesn’t use anything like it.

Now I better understand what you are talking about. It’s not about the filters, you would like to see all of your albums as list to see more of them without having to scroll. Have you tried the folder view? You can view all of your folders (so your albums are in it) and when you select one, you can see all of the tracks in it like this:

Is this what you are looking for?

Maybe Fidelizer Pro in the chain?

Not really, @Antoine. It’s more like what you see in the attached screenshot, from Audirvana 3.2.20.

You can see it at the top of the window, just below the player status bar. It allows one to browse through artists/ albums as one chooses. What made the Audirvana browser even better than Apple’s was that all of the filters were available to the user, and one could create as many columns as one liked. I’m not a big classical person, but it’s not hard to imagine the advantage such a thing would represent for classical listeners.

If you’d like, I’m happy to send you more screenshots, or even a screen recording, of the old column browser in action. For one, I would be pleased as could be, if there was an option to have it in the window or not. It could easily replace the color blob/ artist info, currently hogging space, in the top of the app window.

Thanks, @Chris2. My signal chain is pretty simple:
Music on external drive-> 2018 Mac Mini six-core, 64gb RAM (still the top-of-the-line model)-> Audirvana (no upsampling, effects, EQ, or filters-> 10gb Ethernet port on Mac Mini-> cat 6 Ethernet cable-> Motorola MG8702 modem-> cat 6 Ethernet cable-> MicroRendu-> Pangea Premier XL USB cable-> Schiit Yggdrasil.

I’m not a big user of filters, upsampling, or anything else that alters the signal.

Also, @Chris2, none of the problems I’m now encountering were present, when using Audirvana 3.2.20, for most of the past five years.

@Antoine, I just tried setting the buffer size to 4000MB, as you suggested, and the player hung at the end of the first track I played.

I still have a music player that doesn’t play music. What’s next?

@Antoine, just to let you know, this issue is as terrible as it’s ever been. I’m listening to the fourth track of the night, and the player has already hung up twice.

Unfortunately, the buffer reduction does not appear to have solved the problem.

Please let me know what to try next.

Thank you.

Another interesting thing I’m currently noticing @Antoine: I’m currently playing a MQA album, ripped from a MQA UHQCD, and, so far, the hanging issue hasn’t presented itself. I’m on track five of a seven-track album, and I haven’t had to tap the Next Track arrow once.

I’ll edit this post, if it does occur, but I haven’t played through five regular redbook tracks once in the week and a half I’ve used the software.

The album is now on track six, without my intervention, but I have noticed random bursts of noise at the beginnings of tracks a couple of times, @Antoine.

Track seven now playing with no user intervention, @Antoine, but it started with yet another jarring burst of noise.

Hello @GaseousClay,

There is something I didn’t checked with you. Which version of Sonore OS are you using in your mrendu?

@Antoine, to be honest, I’m not immediately certain. I will have to check later today, when I’m back in front of my computer.

I’ll let you know as soon as I do.

Can’t help you then, never had issues with 3.5 too. I have a feeling that Studio is still a bit buggy but it is getting there Sound quality in my system is significantly better than with 3.5 or Roon.

@Antoine, I checked the MicroRendu, and it was running version 2.8, the most recent version. Just to ensure there were no issues with the Sonore software, I reinstalled the latest version, via their site.

I reopened Audirvana, played two tracks that required no user intervention, and then it froze at the BEGINNING of the next track. Now, it won’t play at all. I get status messages, above the player, reading “Initializing Audio Device”, followed by “Loading First Track”, and then it just stops.

What would you like to try next?

@Antoine, I just confirmed that the same MQA tracks that were playing earlier, issue-free, also will not play.

@Antoine, I just ran another bug report.
