Audirvāna hangs streaming to renderer

Hi, I just started my trial. In spite of SW hiccups it started well SQ wise. However, since today I cannot play anything anymore. When I hit play, Audirvana hangs and produces no music.

I am streaming to a SoTM sMS-200 Ultra Neo network renderer. The problem applies to all kinds of material (redbook and hires) and regardless of upsampling or not.

From JRiver everything works fine.

What can I be doing wrong?

Solved for now by deleting and re-adding the music folder.

Audirvana is software I love to hate. Reliability and intuitiveness are terrible but SQ is very good. Not sure which will prevail…

Hello @GaseousClay,

I understand your frustration but this app is not in a beta state at all so please keep in mind that if you have a connectivity issue with your device, there is probably something that can be done.

If you want to add one or more tracks to the play queue, you need to do this:

Can you send us a copy of the “Debug Info” when you have this issue? You can get it in Audirvana Settings>My account

Note: By clicking on the Debug Info button, Audirvana automatically copies all its content, all you have to do is paste it in response to this message

Thanks for the response @Antoine.

I am well aware that Aüdîrvāńã Śtūdīô is not intended to be a beta release. I was being sarcastic, because ever since version 3.5 was released, a great many users, myself included, have felt more like beta testers, being forced to pay to use a product that was not ready for prime time, than satisfied, paying software users getting good value for their money.

You also clearly are not understanding what I’m referring to, with my play queue issue. I’m talking about dragging tracks WITHIN the play queue, to modify their play order, once already in the queue. Currently, when I drag items, the queue jumps hundreds of tracks back, when dragging them up, and won’t allow me to drag them down. In fact, when I try to drag down, the queue responds by scrolling hundreds more tracks UP, in the OPPOSITE direction!!! It’s like someone at Audirvana is playing a prank on me! Thanks for the tip, but I’m quite well aware of how to add tracks to the queue. Fighting against a software that can’t properly respond to basic drag-and-drop based commands is something at which I am far less proficient.

I’ve been using Audirvana, in its various incarnations, since 2016. So far, the best one was the one that was inexplicably abandoned in 2019. I understand its basic functionality, or often more aptly, lack thereof, pretty well.

Speaking of things that worked perfectly in version 3.2.20, what about bringing back the good old COLUMN BROWSER?! It really does work well, when trying to browse extensive, locally stored libraries quickly and efficiently. It’s funny that, when Apple omitted the column browser from the first versions of their Music app, the user base was so vocal about their disdain for the change that APPLE, the largest corporation on the planet, had to respond by bringing that interface functionality back. Heads up: I don’t need a big, square blob, wasting space at the top of the Audirvana window, doing nothing. I would infinitely prefer to have a quick, efficient way to browse the nearly 8TB of music, stored on my local drives. Even just the option, as a user, to have a column browser, as Apple chose to adopt, or as Audirvana did until version 3.5, would be a tremendous improvement to the GUI, at least in my use case and that of the many other users who use your software with local music libraries.

Thanks again for the response. It’s a welcome change. I’ll send the bug report, so maybe you can get to the bottom of the hanging issue, tomorrow, when I’m back in front of my computer, likely fighting with Åüdîrvāñá Štūdïø again.

It’s strange, I don’t get this behavior on my side. Which version of MacOS are you using? Do you have this issue whatever the number of tracks you have in the play queue?

I’m using the most recent version of MacOS, Monterrey 12.1. I tried deleting about 100 songs from the queue, and it’s still behaving in the same, erratic manner.

I took a screen recording of the behavior, but I’m unable to upload it.

Also, here is the debug info:

Can you send it to support@audirvana.com?

So, how about that Column Browser request? Honestly, the lack of this feature was the main reason it took me so long to try Studio. I really doubt I will subscribe, if it isn’t added.

I will try.

I sent it. It’s a large file, so please let me know when you get it.

Antoine, did you receive the screen recording at the email address you provided?

Please advise.

yes, I received the screen record

Monterey is at 12.2 now… if it changes something.

Any word on any of this, @Antoine ?

I took a look at your video, I will try to reproduce the issue today.

Thank you @Antoine.

How about the intermittent hanging issue, for which I sent you the bug report? I listened to about twenty tracks tonight, and the software hung at the end of about four of them, failing to transition to the next track.

Also, could you please address the basic feature request, for a column browser? Even if it were simply an optional feature, it would certainly be helpful to have one. If it were done right, positioned at the top of the window, where there is currently a giant, functionless rectangle, Audirvana would truly be the best music playback and library management software on the market.

Currently, unfortunately, between the clunky, unintuitive UI and the plethora of bugs, it still just seems like amateur hour, and I am having a difficult time justifying a monthly subscription for a software experience that is inferior to the three-year-old version (3.2.20) I’ve been using and will own indefinitely.

I hate this expression “for life”. It’s a (marketing) lie.

Sooner or later (I hope for you later) will be too out of date to work properly. Or you will have to keep an old device with an old os just for your old local files.

Thank you. I revised my post to read “indefinitely”. Absolutely correct.

Any word on the hanging issue, @Antoine ? I’ve just tried to listen to nine tracks, and it has occurred twice.

Also, what is the answer, with the jumping around, when attempting to move tracks, within the queue? Again, this issue makes it all but impossible to perform a simple function (selecting and dragging items, within a list) that has been a basic function of all GUI’s since the 80’s.

Also, when are you going to respond to my questions about a column browser, so I have a simple, fast, efficient way of viewing my local music library?

I was initially impressed and surprised by the fact that I actually got any response at all, when I posted here, but this is becoming almost as maddening as trying to direct questions to @Damien has always been. Issues are pointed out. Requested information is provided, and then my efforts are met with unresponsive silence. Finally, nothing changes, or if it does, it changes for the worse, and then I go back to an old version of the software that actually functions properly and efficiently. Once again, it appears it’s Amateur Hour at Âüdīrvåñā!

It just hung at the end of a track again, @Antoine, one track after the last occurrence.
