I haven’t used the program for a while so I updated it and tried to play a file. I displays my playlists but will not play what I select but says unable to open file.
Some more information is needed. If Audirvana can not play your library or playlists something is wrong with your playlists or something has changed in your music library. There must be a logical explanation for this.
Basic troubleshooting first:
- Have you changed the drives or path your music is on since you last used Audirvana? If so your playlists are probably pointing to the wrong location and can not find the files. In that case you have to define new playlists.
- Check that the library path you have defined in Audirvana is still valid. If not: delete the library in Audirvana and define a new one with the correct location.
- Check that the connection with the drive (or NAS) your music is on is valid.
If the above does not help you need to provide more information about your configuration.
You can do that by copying your debug info (from the Audirvana settings) in this thread.
Thanks for responding Andy. The music is all on the same drive, an external Western Digital spinner, as it always was. I don’t recall establishing a path other than what Audirvana defined and I can’t find any means of affecting the path with the interface. I’m not sure what you mean by a valid connection. The audirvana gui shows all the albums and tracks just like it always did, the drive is connected and on. The track titles do not change to purple when I click the mouse on them and that was always an indication that they were starting to play. I am now using win 11 if that is a factor. Thanks for helping.
Cheers, John
Audirvana does not define or automagically know where your music files are. You have to define that yourself In the settings the first time you start use Audirvana. See the screenshot below. In the screenshot you can see that in my case I have pointed Audirvana to look at drive D:. You should do the same for your Western Digital drive. The example below is from Audirvana Origin. But if you still use Audirvana 3.5 a similar library setting is there too.
Maybe I misunderstand what you mean and if you already have done that and that does not help you need to provide more information about your system.
If you want to provide more info: Go to my account and click debug info. The information will be automatically copied to your clipboard and after that you can paste this info in your answer. Again if you are still using Audirvana 3.5 you will also find this in the settings somewhere:
I don’t know where my clipboard is.

I think I may have found it
Hi Andy. Your advice and some intense poking around on my part turned up the clip board and a path error which I finally figured out how to correct and I now have music flowing. Thanks for the push in the right direction.
Cheers, John
You don’t need to know. Windows does that automatically for you.
If you copy something in Windows it automatically comes in the Windows clipboard. If you paste something after that, Windows will automatically get it from the clipboard and place it where you want.
I see in your debug info that you have defined 2 drives in your Audirvana library settings: Drive F: and Drive G:. Also they are both OFF LINE, that means that those drives do not exist, are not connected to your computer or are turned off. In all cases OFF LINE means that the data on them is not available.
I already showed you a screenshot in my previous post. You need to change your library settings to point to your external Western Digital spinner.
Look at the screenshot I already provided:
Remove drive F: and drive G:\MUSIC_A by clicking on the recycle bin next to them. After that click on ‘Add folders’ (make sure your WD Drive is on and connected to your computer) and select your WD Drive. After that it will take a while for Audirvana to scan your drive for music (you can see a status bar in the top of Audirvana while it is scanning your drive).
Now Audirvana should be able to play the music from you Western Digital.
That all worked like a charm. Thanks, Andy. I’m approaching 80 years old and having more trouble thinking about complications than I used to, but I still appreciate having good music sounding good.
You are welcome.
I am happy to hear that you can listen to your music again
