Audirvana Stops playing after the Buffer has been emptied in DietPi

Hello,

I have installed DietPi and Audirvana Core on an Intel NUC. The NUC is configured via LAN in the same network as my Akurate Hub. From the hub, I connect to my DAC via AES. I play music from a USB stick plugged into the NUC via the Audirvana app. When I start playing music, it plays (approximately) until the buffer is empty. Then there is crackling and hissing and playback stops. When I press play, the music starts again from the beginning until it stops again. I tried different Buffer Sizes and Sampling Rates, but this did not solve the Problem. I tried this with Ubuntu as the Operating System - same Problem.

When I use my Windows computer with Audirvana Studio instead of the NUC, I don’t have these problems. Since I feel that the Core version has a slightly finer resolution, I would like to use it. I am grateful for any help!

Best regards, Robert

I am using DietPi with Core, and I don’t experience the problems you describe. Hence, it is not DietPi or Audirvana. I don’t know what the Akurate Hub is, how do you play from the NUC to the Hub? Is it UPnP?

Hello, yes - the Linn Hub was shown in the Audirvana App as UPnP AV Output Device. Thanks. Robert

UPnP AV often is a problem. Can you check on your windows computer (assuming you use UPnP with your windows computer) if you adjusted any setting in the ā€˜DAC input’ pane, which you haven’t on the core player?

i will. Thanks. Maybe its relevant: i“ve installed and booting DietPi from a USB Stick. On that Stick are my Music Files too

despite the same Settings - the Stops occurs. What incan not compare is the WASAPI / ASIO / KERNEL STREAMING Setting on Audirvana Core - this option is in Core not available - right?

I wouldn’t know if that can make a difference. I am not a computer expert. I have run it from a mini PC, but I installed DietPi on the hard drive of the computer.

Sounds like the NUC’s Linux setup is struggling with USB audio buffering. Try plugging the DAC directly into a dedicated USB port, disable USB power saving, and increase ALSA/PulseAudio buffer sizes. Linux handles USB audio differently than Windows, so a few tweaks usually fix the crackling.

Hello,

unfortunately, I was too hasty. Audirvana Studio also stops playing music after a certain amount of time on my other computer running Windows 11. So it can’t be the external USB stick.

I also can’t increase the ALSA buffer in DietPi because I did a standard installation, which obviously doesn’t install ALSA. Should I install ALSA?

Any help is welcome. Thank you very much!

You can always try installing ALSA, see whether that helps, and remove it if nothing changes.
