Audirvana Windows 2.5.2 firewall diagnostics false positives

That was some critical information you could have provided earlier

I assumed you where using Windows Firewall (like 99% of the Windows users). In your case McAfee is controlling (or taking over) the Windows Firewall. Since McAfee has a (very strong) mind of it’s own all odds are off.

In this case you can try to close Audirvana and remove all Audirvana entries in the McAfee firewall as well (and in the Windows firewall also). Since the Windows Firewall is probably not active you won’t get the Windows Firewall message when you start Audirvana, but probably some message from McAfee (or not).

So repeat all the steps I already mentioned but with the McAfee Firewall also. See if that helps. If that does not help maybe you will need to allow Audirvana in the McAfee firewall manually, but you are on your own there because I don’t know McAfee.
On a sidenote, If I where you, I would disable the McAfee firewall altogether and use the Windows built-in firewall instead. McAfee is more trouble than it is worth in this case. But for that you can better ask on a McAfee forum how to do that.

Thanks for all your assistance. I will give this scenario a try.

I Googled a bit:
To make the confusion complete:

  • Older versions of McAfee had a complete independent firewall and completely disabled Windows Firewall.
  • Newer versions of McAfee (2022 and later) have a ‘lighter’ firewall which basically uses the Windows firewall but with some advanced settings.

I don’t know what version you have, but I thought I’d share the info
Anyhow you’ll probably have to fiddle with both (Windows and McAfee) firewall settings to solve your issue.

I also have the same problem with firewall version 2.5.2 origin and the solutions described don’t work.

Thanks! McAfee came with my PC and a chore to get rid of. Looks like May of 2021 so could be either…the plot thickens!

Same here.

Are you using Windows built in Firewall or some other firewall which overrules Windows?
This warning is new functionality in Audirvana and it seems it does not work flawlessly when things differ from the standard Windows…

Maybe @Antoine (Audirvana support) should have a look at this.

I’m also having the problem, using windows 10 only windows firewall, went through all the possible fixes and nothing, no connection with the remote app.
@Antoine here’s my debug info if it helps:

There may still be a challenge in the Windows ‘public’ and ‘private’ network settings.

I am not a Windows user. But at work I sometimes encounter that Windows firewalls make that ‘Edge’ devices are not accessible to a designer or gateway.

So I’m not 100% sure, but a network must be set to ‘private’ or ‘public’.
In Private you are in a safe environment, in public you are in an airport and anyone can try to get into your laptop.

In the example above, Audirvana indicates that it is on a ‘private’ network and that the rules allow incoming and outgoing traffic. But not public, inbound is blocked

If you briefly disable the firewall, you can rule out whether this is caused by the firewall. And whether it happens in your private or public settings.

This function is new for Audirvana, I can imagine that due to the conditions set, the correct conclusion is not drawn in all cases.

firewall windows 11

For the time being I have gone back to AS 2.4.0 until the firewall issue gets resolved.
Thanks for all the helpful suggestions offered here!

I’ve updated to 2.5.2 with no problems (win11), however it would appear that 2.4.0 is the last known good version- no memory leak or firewall problems, afaik.
Perhaps it may be better to withdraw the 2.5.x updates for now, until the gremlins within both 2.5.x updates have been eliminated?

Thank you all for reporting these false positive warnings on firewall blocking Audirvāna inbound connections, especially when using a 3rd party solution like McAfee.

First, this new feature is only a diagnostic one, meant to help solving the #1 cause for Remote not connecting, UPnP, Chromecast playback not starting: inbound connections blocked. (The #2 for remote is router hang in its mDNS stack)

Getting the warning message does not hamper any Audirvāna feature, it is only a warning message.

Anyway, there was a limit to this diagnosis: some 3rd party firewalls. I’ve then made an update skipping this check when a 3rd party firewall is detected as registered in place of Windows Defender.

You can already get access to the release candidates for the upcoming 2.5.3 for Windows:

Studio 2.5.3 release candidate

Origin 2.5.3 release candidate

For those who had such false positives, please tell if this update removes the unwanted warning.

With McAfee, seeing the screenshot you’ve provided, you’ll want to switch off Net Guard for Audirvāna to get it detected by the Remote App.
Access set to “Incoming and outgoing” and “Open to all devices” is fine.

Working great now with no more message.
Thank you Damien for your tireless work, on the weekend no less!

I also have the same problem with 2.5.3! the only one that doesn’t give me a problem is 2,4,0

Meaning? Can you elaborate on your specific issue?

And the Network paragraph of your Debug Info please. You may have a real firewall setting issue.
