Choppy playback with hi-res files through UPnP (macOS Ventura)

I can’t tell since when it’s the case as I don’t recall the last time I played an high resolution album, but today I wanted to listen to one, and while it plays fine from the computer speakers and CD-res albums do play fine through UPnP, every hi-res file I attempted to play through Audirvana towards my network player failed at being played smoothly. I even tried with FLAC (as my library is all converted in ALAC) but the problem remains the same. After a second or less, it gets choppy.
I don’t use upsampling, I disabled replaygain and software volume control. I also disabled SysOptimizer and RAW PCM with no result. I tried with various hi-res formats, they all get choppy at various rates. 24/192, 24/176.4, 24/96, 24/88.2.

I’ve rebooted the computer, the network player, I’m using ethernet and cut all other programs which could harm the bandwidth in case (although I never had to do that before anyway).
Playing these files with foobar2000 works perfectly fine, so I guess it’s not a network issue. With Audirvana Studio and Origin, I could play these properly until quite recently, with ReplayGain, SysOptimizer and RAW PCM enabled.

My configuration is a macbook pro intel (Ventura 13.0) with Audirvana Origin 2.0 (20000), ethernet to a Yamaha WXC-50. All files are stored in the built-in SSD. I’ve tried with a MacBook Air M1 (same setup) and it’s not playing properly either.

The same behaviour can be observed when I use Audirvana 3.5 (legacy) on my Ventura MBP.

Hey @Yohmi , you say that this has only occurred recently? How long have you been on Ventura os? Could this be a change in your system that might have triggered this issue. My experience was with Studio beta and Mojave using Ethernet, everything went smoothly until trying to play a longer tracks at 24/192 then the cutting out started. So no real answer or advice but just my observation. Best luck with it. Need to get @Antoine involved probably unless someone else has a good idea for resolving this issue.

You have both computers on Ventura I think?

I’m using Ventura since its official release, and I can’t recall whether I’ve been playing hi-res files through UPnP under Ventura and Origin 2.0 or if the last occurence was with Monterey / Origin 1. Both computers currently run Ventura and the latest version of Origin. Thanks for your input !

Yeah I was thinking that unless you were on Ventura beta that might be the change in your playback chain………maybe?

This could be ! I just had an idea, I forgot I still had Audirvana 3.5 installed, so I fired it up, and it also plays choppy. So I guess it’s not Origin 2.0 which brought the issue. Now, is it something with my local setup, or something widespread to Ventura…

Ok @Yohmi , good day. I have played two albums 24/192 thru Qobuz via 3.5 no upsample Ethernet to my Oppo205. Testing with both my 2018 i7 Mac mini and M1 MacBook Pro. Both playing fine other than the inability to play play thru a 17min track without hiccups ( same as Monterey) Doesn’t seem like a Ventura issue, nobody else has chimed in yet.

Have you tried powering everything down, router, switch, Yamaha and restart fresh?

Once again, a hard reboot of every single node of the system fixed the situation. I should have known better, haha !
Since foobar2000 was doing its stuff without a hiccup, I wasn’t hopeful at all in this routine, but at last, it worked. Thanks for taking the time !
