Connection to Lumin cuts

Hi there

am giving a try to AS so far is really good in comparison with Roon but connection is Intermitent when connected to Lumin DAC through my local network (ethernet)

I have two systems:

Office

Amp
Macbookpro dedicated to AS
Dragonfly black, this connect to Analog in the Amp through USB to RCA
No issues when I use this system

Second system
Lumin + Amp all through Ethernet

Besides, NAS with my music through Ethernet
The server manages music with Minimserver

Macbook is connected throught Ehernet and USB for Dragonfly

When I am in the main room playing through Lumin music cut several times. I use AS remote in my Ipad to play.
To play Lumin DAC I select this device in AS settings, works because I see the name of the song on Lumin display and transmision rate.

So my First question is what is causing the music to cut several times
is my connection? Macbook to Lumin,
If so, could be a problem in my network, however Lumin I play music with Lumin/NAS or Qobuz using Lumin APP, there is no issue.

The other question is about the format, I see in Lumin display that the format transmited is WAV, is that correct ? This format is either with Qobuz or Local music. When I use Lumin the format is FLAC. Most of my music is FLAC and I see that Qobuz uses the same (not sure if this happens with all the Qobuz library)

I will post the debug below

Appreciate help to understand is this is the best way to connect and if my connection is causing the problem

Couple things to try, Your buffer is way large try around 4gb
Try the Raw/Pcm switch in your dac settings

Decreased the buffer and turn the Raw/PCM switch, I think is working, will try with different records, and Qobuz.

I am curious about the transmision being WAV, is that correct ?

Thanks for the help!

Good deal ! Hope that helps
As far as WAV let’s get some of the brains to help with that, @bitracer and @Jacob might weigh in on this

Thanks again !

I see AS is playing FLAC (it says in the player) but Lumin WAVE, the bit rate is right thou.

Pic showing Audirvana playing FLAC

Lumin playing WAVE same rate

One of the advantages of Audirvana is that all formats are converted to a raw PCM (wav) or DSD. The streamer never has to decode. The work is performed by the PC.

The disadvantage of this is that the network is loaded more heavily. Depending on the network format, a flac file must be loaded over the network to the PC and the decoded file must also be streamed over the same network.

In the settings you can see the workflow of Audirvana.

Thanks, so network capability could become a bottleneck.
that sounds right however Lumin is also doing the same when playing from the server and has a dedicated router slot, never had a problem of music cutting.

Since buffer was reduced have less cuts but still the problem is there.

Everything is relative. A CD quality stream is 1.4 Mb per second. The file from your screenshot is 9.2 Mb per second. A bit old-fashioned network is 100 Mbps. A more recent Network is 1000 Mbps. So normally no problem. With a slower/unstable WiFi network, it may just cause you stream to be unstable.

In my case is all wired and Network is 2017 year I bought router and switches.
Appreciate the help.

Did you toggle the raw pcm switch ?

Yes @OffRode here the screenshot

When you play the music on the Mac’s speakers, are there no interruptions?

In the progress bar you can see how far the track has loaded and where it is playing. Looking at the Debug info I don’t expect any problems, but does the track load faster than the playback speed? Is purple not catching up with the light gray bar?

Macbook pro ouputs through USB + Dragonfly DAC, then analog input in Amp. No issues.

Regarding the bar, fills before plays a song, I guess is showing buffering and looks good.

More to look for a cause than a solution. If you play lower resolution files. Does it play without interuptions?

Have you tried restarting everything? PC, router, streamer. And then make sure to completely disconnect the power for 10 minutes.

Did not try lower resolution but I’ve tried playing from Qobuz or my NAS and the result is the same, cutting.

Yes I restarted everything and same result, tonight will shut down Macbook to see tomorrow. Today I just restarted macbook.

The trouble with this kind of problem is that it can have many causes.

What I always try is to exclude as much as possible. Simplify the system as much as possible. As few other applications and devices as possible open on the same network. No firewalls or other apps. Disconnect the main cables for 10 minutes from the router and streamer.

And then see if it’s okay. If there are still problems then you know that it is not because of the peripheral matters.

Sometimes it’s something really silly.
Sometimes it’s really a bug in Audirvana.

Maybe I missed it, but did you check if you’re running the latest Lumin firmware?

I will keep trying, also planning to change the ethernet switch that Macbook is connected, these are affordable but sometimes start to behave wrong will see the results

Thanks
