Dedicated Linux distribution

Hello

Do you think it would be possible to make a Linux distribution that can be installed on a NUC or other mini PC and run headless, like Roon Rock, Volumio or Daphile?
I tried installing on a NAS but it didn’t work well (old model, maybe that’s the reason) and I don’t want to have to keep the PC on when I want to listen to music.

I don’t understand? The Linux Core Player is headless and available for quite a lot of devices (if system requirements are met).

Do you mean something else?

From what I’ve seen, this is software that installs on a computer that already has Linux installed. I was interested in something like what I mentioned, a bootable ISO image that installs and runs without too much hassle.

Ah, ok. I get it now.

It doesn’t exist at the moment. The advantage is convenience; the disadvantage is that it’s considerably more software for a small Audirvana team to maintain and provide customer service for, in between squashing bugs and looking for improvements. And then of course you would have people asking for additional features in the OS as well as the software (I’ve seen this happen with another software player for which the developer has put together a minimal headless distribution).

Those are my thoughts anyway, but I don’t work for Audirvana.

Maybe that’s the reason, but I think if there were such a distribution, it would gain some more followers, there are enough people who don’t want to use the computer every time they want to listen to music.

Would the computer running Audirvāna be in the same room where you were listening? I understand if you wouldn’t want fan noise, for example, interfering with your enjoyment.

If it could be located in another room, then I can’t think of much difference between turning on a computer with a Linux server OS and no GUI, and booting from a USB stick into a dedicated headless distribution. (I do most of my listening with a headless minimal Arch distribution running Audirvāna in another room.) But perhaps there is a difference for you that I haven’t thought of. Let me know if that is the case.
