Dirac

Hello…!

I have a question about DSP functions like the Dirac option in the AudirVana sound engine with my Linn Majik network steamer. It’s a DLNA/UpNp network streamer. On the AudirVana website I see some video’s where i’m not 100% clear to me if it will work? It looks like it will work, but you can’t change something while playing music.

The question is: Does AudirVana with a Dirac VST3 plugin work on my Linn streamer?
Does anyone here has experience with this kind of setup?

Kind regards,
Niek

Best to start here so you understand the functional operations of the plug-in, however I believe if you are connecting via UPnP there will be no real-time control:

Hi @Niekmh, check out Home Audio Fidelity’s Room Shaper VST3 pugin …

It works great within Audirvana and is a fraction of the cost of Dirac. Here is a comprehensive review …

@Agoldnear: Thank for the link. I did know this already;)
I know in detail how it works,… but, apparently, sometimes the Linn DNLA protocol can be a problem. But why and how? :man_shrugging:t2:
It’s hard to get precise information about this.

As we speak I’m looking for a other solution,… a stand alone dac for more options in the future and sell the Linn.

@Press250.

Thank you for the links! Maybe this can be interesting as well :+1:t2:

It is common that when a manufacturer employs a proprietary UI/OS in a vertically integrated synergy, the architecture of the UPnP protocol is modified and designed to support that mission to the exclusion of control outside of their operational ecosystem.
Audirvāna does not support real-time control via UPnP as there is no feedback from the endpoint device by virtue of the UPnP protocol itself.

UPnP/DLNA has been described as one of the most “non-standard standards.” Many brands of audio equipment, including Linn, have modified the standard, so that while UPnP/DLNA was intended to be something universal, instead we have a situation where some software doesn’t work with some hardware.

Specifically regarding Audirvana and Linn, Audirvana uses a part of the standard known as UPnP-AV (audio-video), while Linn uses a modification of the standard known as OpenHome. So my initial question before anything to do with the plugin would be, have you tried Audirvana with your Linn streamer, and do these work together?

You might consider trying/using a “Plugin Host”, see Hang Loose Host, to configure Dirac Live in realtime outside of using Audirvana… After all you are trying to do room correction… Not rocket surgery… Should be a “one and done” event… Then once configured Dirac should run with that config in Audirvana… No need to play around with Dirac from within Audirvana… Wondering if you can temporarily hook up the Linn to a laptop via USB or HDMI to do the Dirac config… It might be a little more direct? And if your outside of using Upnp you might be able to run Audirvana with Dirac directly to get the config… Then switch back to the Upnp side…
