It is not a given in any DAC platform design that the platform designer(s) will employ/exploit all of the available functions of a given DAC chipset…
For your information… The DoP function can be enabled or disabled on the USB or the S/PDIF inputs of the ES9038PRO chipset… Which means that DoP can be enabled independent of the signal type whether it is PCM (DoP carrier) on the S/PDIF data input or a PCM (DoP carrier) on the USB data input by the platform design engineer… it can be one input source or both input sources that get sent to the DoP/DSP processor section.
The status of the DoP function is facilitated on the chip by these commands:
The S/PDIF DoP signal data input is routed independent of the DSD DoP signal data input as described in this block diagram:
Here is a diagram of the chipset pin configuration and a description of which pins are the S/PDIF data connections and which are the DSD data connections:
Having no guidance from the SU-9 User manual/specifications and unclear description of how DoP was facilitated for DSD/DoP sample-rates beyond DSD64, and zero experience or insights as to how the SU-9 handled DSD128 or 256/DoP sample-rates, I was dependent on somebody with reasonably credible information from which to corroborate a presumption that all DSDxxx/DoP signals will be processed by the DAC chipset… After all, it is an inexpensive DAC with sketchy documentation that may or may not have been designed to exploit the full potentials of the ES9038PRO DAC chipset.

I presume you know more than the developers of the DoP open Standard and the ESS chip designers…
My dear friend, only a few months ago, you did not know basics about DoP!
Just search for the endless thread that you opened about the issue that you thought to have with Audirvana playing DSD with your DAC (forgot its name)… Read your inputs there and refresh your memory.

In my opinion newer DACs regardless of brand, model or chip as long as they do DSD512 and PCM 768Khz, will do DoP DSD256.
