DSD Playback almost silent with loud hiss

Hi,
I’ve been trying to play back DSD64 using an Earmen Donald Dac and when either DSD via PCM 1.1 or 1.0 are used I get a loud hissing sound and if I max out the volume on my headphone amp I’m able to barely make out the music playing in the background. From my understanding the Donald Dac supports native DSD decoding however there doesn’t appear to be an option for sending a direct DSD stream within the App. Below is the debug info while playing back a DSD track.

You’ll need to install the USB driver for that? Is there a driver available from the manufacturer?

The only link I found is this:
https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0250/1758/1634/files/EarMen_Win-1.rar?186

Not sure if it’s for your DAC specifically. Check that with the manufacturer.

Unfortunately this dac is plug and play and works off the Windows 10 USB Audio 2.0 Driver. I did try that driver you found the other week but it is meant for an ESS Sabre Dac and not the Cirrus Logic chips in this one.
I’ve written to the manufacturer now to see what they have to say, cross fingers they come back with something.

Not a pc guy, but have you tried with asio ?

And that in the debug info:
Volume Control
Physical: No
Virtual: No
Is it normal?

@RunHomeSlow the volume controls I think are normal for this dac. Otherwise I would expect there to be an issue playing back other formats. I don’t believe it supports ASIO but I can give it a try.

ASIO performs exactly the same :frowning: It actually seems to perform worse when I change the Native DSD streaming method over to None: convert to PCM as there is now added noise compared to WASAPI. Debug info in case it matters:

Not sure how useful this info is, but I’m able to get DSD playback with Foobar2000 over WASAPI with the following config:

Am still waiting to hear back from Earmen, I had contacted them previously and hadn’t heard anything back, this time I went via their sales team who hopefully will be able to get someone to take a look for me
