Errors loading tracks or starting tracks

i have an mp3 album from amazon which plays without issues in apple music and ipod. in audirvana at the start of some tracks it makes a noise like a tape being played at high speed. it then settles down and plays the rest of the track or gets a load error and skips to the next track. i used “mp3 scan and repair” (mac) and it reports no errors with the tracks.

my environment is a macbook pro
Audirvana Mac Version 3.5.29 (3559)
macOS 10.15.3 with 16384MB RAM

i like to use tokyo lab VOS SlickEQ. i turned it off and tried replaying with same results.

i use an amazon alexa 3rd generation speaker with bluetooth. i’ve tried changing my connection back to the mac internal speakers and no change in behaviour.

does anyone else have this problem?

after the fact, i found the same album on tidal and all tracks stream without issue. i initially purchased it so i could play it on an ipod

Hello @jdg,

Can you send me a copy of the “Debug Info” while listening to this track? You can get it in Audirvana Settings>General>Debug Info

Note: By clicking on the Debug Info Audirvana button automatically copies all its content, all you have to do is paste it in response to this message

damien. here is the debug log a few seconds into track 2 with the high speed tape squeal

Hello @jdg, can you change your maximum memory audio buffer to 3000 or 4000MB? To do so you need to go in your audio settings in Audirvana here:

i made the change and it had no effect. i also tried using the minimum setting and it had no effect.

damien,

i decided to go back to amazon and repeat the download process. they provide a single zip file with all the tracks. i unpacked this into a different directory and then because apple music refused to import it, used a meta tag editor to give it a unique name. this imported successfully, showed up in audirvana as the edited filename(s) and this worked without a problem. i then cleaned up library, deleting the old one and the edited one, unzipped the new download, and imported it and now have a working copy. if i can find a binary difference tool, i will check to see if the downloads vary in some way.

i used cmp -l in a term window and there are significant differences on a track by track basis. i’m not sure what apple does in its mp3 decoder that it doesn’t see an issue but i’m fine if you want to close this out.
