Eversolo DMPA6 - Unable to Play DSD Files

Hi I have been using Roon for a while and intend to move to Audirvana and is currently on Trial. I have good collection of DSD files. However these files do play but no audio comes out of speaker.

I have selected Native DSD Streaming Method : DSD over Native PCM 1.1

Will appreciate any thoughts on this

It does not appear the DMPA6 supports DSD over PCM (DoP) except for the optical and coaxial inputs that support transmission of DSD64 via DoP… The User Manual does not make this clear either.

The DMPA6 employs the PCM-centric ESS ES9038Q2M chipsets which decimate all DSD files to PCM for processing… You may want to experiment with having Audirvāna decimate/down-convert your DSD files to PCM for output to the ESS system… this will offload the decimation processing from the ESS chipset, freeing-up its resources for the modulation and Hyperstream processing before output.

DSD over PCM (DoP) is a system that delivers the 1-bit PDM (DSD) signs via a PCM carrier file to the DAC where the 1-bit signal is extracted and delivered to the output circuitry…

The ESS chipset interpolates the 1-bit DSD signal to a PCM format that is compatible with the Hyperstream processing before output to their multi-bit D/A circuitry,… This is independent of how the DSD signal is received, whether this is native 1-bit transmission or DoP transmission… There is no pure unfettered 1-bit PDM (DSD) signal path to output.

To have Audirvāna convert your DSD files to PCM for output, change the ‘Native DSD streaming method’ to ‘None, convert to PCM’

It must be a setting in Audirvana with volume on your machine or dac… is it set to 100%

Ain’t that a thing with dsd files volume as to be set at 100% or something like it?

It does not appear from the User Manual, that the DMPA6 supports DSD over PCM (DoP) via USB or Ethernet … Otherwise we need the debug report in-order to see the DAC capabilities… The screenshot above is showing only, that it is playing a DSD128 file and the OP states that it is playing it natively…

Note:
It appears that the DSD files you are trying to play are .DIFF format… Audirvāna supports .DFF files via UPnP … Also, the DMPA6 does not support .DIFF files.

From the UPnP troubleshooting link I provided above:

DSD playback doesn’t work

When playing to a UPNP device capable of supporting DSD with Audirvāna, the device must state it supports DFF. This information is available once your device is selected as an audio output in Audirvāna and going on the debug info. You can get it in Audirvana Settings>My account.

• If you see this line: http-get::audio/dff: under the section UPnP / DLNA supported protocols, your device supports DFF over UPNP.

Thanks I have no clue. I will rest my case. Since I am playing files that are in the HDD connected directly to eversolo. There is no USB device. I also tried downloading the USB Device driver and it does not help. Thanks for your help, patience and guidance. I will have to then continue with Roon as DSD does not play on Eversolo using Audirvana.

Audirvāna needs to see a music library drive directly attached to the computer platform, either via USB or Ethernet or the music library stored on the computer platform System drive, not the DMPA6… Audirvāna is not a controller for the DMPA6. Audirvāna is the audio-engine that produces the digital-audio stream to the streamer/DAC. The Eversolo uses its own proprietary audio-engine for playback of locally connected media internally or externally via USB and Internet streaming files via Ethernet. Roon is using its symbiotic control of the DMPA6 audio-engine as a Roon endpoint via RAAT which the Eversolo device supports.

Connect a USB library drive to your computer, sync the library drive with Audirvāna and connect the DMPA6 via USB, properly configure Audirvāna according to your set-up and properly configure the DMPA6 as a DAC, and reboot your entire system to get a simple baseline.

If you cannot play DSD files in th configuration described above, it is time to contact Eversolo about the behavior you are experiencing.
