Force Stereo DSD track from SACD ISO

Hi, I am evaluating Origin to possibly replace JRiver.

Would there be a way to force reading the stereo track of a SACD ISO file?

I saw that the proposed solution so far is to extract the stereo track to DSD or remove the multi channel track from the ISO. It has the disadvantage of having to keep multiple versions of the files and therefore uses way more space (DSD are not light).

Maybe I need clarification.
In the list of tracks, it shows the tracks are 5/6 channels.
But in the player panel, next to the cover, it says

SACD ISO|DSD64 Stereo

And on the output part of the Panel under the volume it also says

DAC: DSD64 Stereo.

In this example, the output is a UPnP Receiver that supports DSD.

So what is played? The Stereo track of the ISO file or not? Is there any conversion done in the path?

I frankly can’t hear a difference on this particular album I am testing. It doesn’t seem any channel is missing, bass is there, all instruments etc…

It make sense that if your DAC has only two channels of output, Audirvāna will see the DAC as a two-channel device and play the stereo tracks because it does not see more output channels… The majority of receivers do not support multi-channel signals from a media player via Ethernet… they utilize a NAS connection under control of the receiver’s system GUI player function.

A 5.1 multi-channel SACD .iso file carries both the stereo and 5.1 multi-channel tracks and if you ripped your personal SACD, you had a choice of just extracting the stereo partition…

Ain’t that a long bug in audirvana?? .iso file

If you put that field in your album window… Numbers of audio Channels…
can you see the 2 Channels and/or the 5/6/7 Channels and can only play what you want??

i don’t have .iso files

The number of channels is indeed listed as 6 in the track list.
I personally read it as “It has also the 6 channel track” instead of “It doesn’t have the stereo track”, and it stopped confusing me.

Based on Sony’s documentation, my receiver does support 6-channel DSD over DLNA (Sony STR-DN1080) and has 6 speakers connected. I do play 6-channel physical SACD via a SACD player without problem on that setup. For good measure I re-burned a ISO file I have to a disk and played the 6-channel track fine, when with Audirvana that same file doesn’t play the 6 channel version over DLNA.

Example I used the Depeche Mode’s Violator album SACD multichannel remix.
It has the advantage of being very different in stereo and multi channel.

When setting the Audirvana output to stereo only, It does play the right stereo track fine over DLNA.
When setting the output to 6 channel, It does play but it’s only the right and left front speakers playing. The other channels are not playing. It’s not a downmixed version to stereo, it is indeed just those 2 channels. I can clearly notice because it’s missing a lot of the voice that’s supposed to be on the center channel and the sounds in the reach channels.

So now I assume that Audirvana is indeed reading correctly the Stereo track of the SACD ISO file when the output only support stereo because when the output is configured to support 6 channels, it does shows in the player panel that it’s using the DSD64 5.1 track and the 6ch output.
So to answer my original question, in order to force playing the stereo track, you only need to set the output to stereo only before hand.

For multichannel support, it seems it’s not really sending properly the 6 channels in order for the receiver to get all the channels. Only my right/left speakers are indeed playing. Either the other channels data is not sent, or the receiver expects it in a different format. No clue.

If there is anything I can do to help debugging, let me know.
Maybe Sony is not saying the truth about supporting 6 channels over DLNA, who knows…

This is via HDMI due to the content being bound by Digital Rights Management (DRM) where HDMI supports content protection.

Yes it’s over the HDMI when using the SACD player.
But what’s your point when related to the issue over DLNA?

Check your receiver’s handling of UPnP signals… My bet it does not support more than 2 channels of DSD via Ethernet…

After many tests and additional discussion with @Agoldnear in another thread regarding my specific Sony receiver, the conclusion is that the receiver indeed doesn’t accept DSD 5.1 over DLNA, but does only over HDMI and USB stick/files.

It accepts PCM 5.1 over DLNA, so to play the multichannel track, it has to be converted before it is sent to the receiver.

To play the stereo track of a SACD/DSD, the Auridvana Origin output needs to be set to stereo in the settings in order to force reading the right track and not sending the 6-channel one.

Another DLNA server actually works with DSD 5.1 to the Sony receiver.
So this thread is never ending debugging…
