HEOS and Audirvana

Hello,
After having read some topics regarding Marantz/Denon latest amps inability issue to play DSD files with Audirvana as well as problems with Audirvana recognition with Marantz/Denon DAC’s capabilities has it been formally recognized that the problem is either on Marantz/Denon or Audirvana’s site? I can strem it via Twonky server directly form my computer via network without any issue…

It’s the same issue reported on a number of other threads with newer Denon and Marantz units when using DLNA where Audirvana doesn’t recognize them as native DSD capable.

I’ve been asking for a fix since early this year.

@Antoine knows about this but so far no progress yet.

Below is the debug info from an older Marantz NA6005 that works fine with Audirvana, and then the debug info from a newer PM7000N that plays DSD via DLNA fine with anything BUT Audirvana.

IMHO since the newer device does not return these supported protocols

Audirvana decides DSD is not supported.

We are trying to ask @Antoine to allow users to override this behaviour

Hello @VoyagerDude and @dmdmdm,

I asked a SoundUnited software engineer about it and the only response I got was to incorporate HEOS to Audirvana which is not the easiest thing to do. The fact that supported protocols is not properly indicated by the DAC is also a problem I asked them but not response from them about it… I will need to send a mail again to him about it today.

Thanks @Antoine. Really appreciate it.

@Antoine is it possible to optionally ignore the value from the HEOS device about not supporting native DSD and try to send the stream to it ?
Just to see if that works?

Unfortunately we can’t do anything as this information is directly retrieved from the DAC UPnP implementation. The change need to come from the software team of the DAC.

Is that because of your DLNA implementation specifics?
Only asking because obviously this works from other software.

Audirvana is a UPnP media renderer and only media renderer, it’s possible that they forgot some part of the UPnP/DLNA implementation for this specific use case.

Dear Both,
Thanks fro all the replies. You are right there there is no point getting Denon to work with full DAC capability or to play DSD files as it is not the high end amp and not too suitable for playing music and it seems that both DENON and other companies implement their Upnp software in this case HEOS to play at max level of 24 bit and 192Khz although DAC can do more.
The only question is why it is blocked? I have LG TV and it can play files from Audirvana with upsampling up to 32/764 kHZ whereas amplifier from Denon cannot having the same DAC…
