Incorrect artwork displayed via UPnP to Wiim Pro

I’m currently running Audirvana Studio v3.2 on macOS 26.5, streaming over UPnP to a Wiim Pro. I monitor “Now Playing” information and artwork via the Wiim integration within Home Assistant.

For as long as I can remember — both with v2 and v3 of AS — I’ve had an issue where the “Now Playing” window in Home Assistant will display the correct artist and track titles, but will consistently display the artwork of the track that had played previously, not the artwork of the current track.

After some troubleshooting help from the person maintaining the Wiim integration, we’ve figured out the issue. It is specific to gapless playback. It does not occur when a track is manually started or when manually skipping through tracks.

Here is the detailed explanation:

Bug: On gapless/auto-advance track transitions, the DIDL-Lite metadata pushed to the UPnP/DLNA renderer (SetAVTransportURI / SetNextAVTransportURI) contains the previous track’s upnp:albumArtURI, while dc:title, upnp:artist, and upnp:album are correct for the new track. The art URI lags by exactly one track. Manually skipping re-sends correct metadata, so it’s specific to the pre-buffered next-track path.

Result: UPnP renderers display cover art one track behind. (Confirmed with Qobuz sources; the advertised albumArtURI is byte-identical to the prior track’s cover.)

Yes, the same behavior is present in the Wiim app on iOS, as well as if I stream to other UPnP clients — it isn’t exclusive to the Wiim.

I have not tried on iOS, will do tomorrow, on Android with the latest firmware for the WiiM Mini, it worked well on my end.

Ok, I tried it on Android, and I don’t have the issue. I’m using firmware 4.6.819436 on a WiiM Mini 2026.

You mention that you’ve tested it on Android twice, but not whether you’ve tested it on iOS, which is where I’m having the problem.

I’ve tested it while sending audio to a Wiim Pro and a Wiim Mini, and the problem is present in both situations. (Note that the artwork remains correct within Audirvana, it’s incorrect when viewed in the Wiim app or Home Assistant — in other words, only on the UPnP client.)

I’m running v4.6.819436 on the Wiim Mini and v4.8.814756 on the Wiim Pro.

Can you go into the Audirvāna settings and into the My Account section? You will see a ‘Start Log Session’ button; click on it and reproduce your issue. Can you open the audirvana_studio.log file, which you can find by clicking the 'Open Log Folder’ button, and check if you see something like this when you have the transition from one track to the other?

I just played three tracks with gapless playback, all of them from different artists / albums, and below are the logs. I’ve removed sections of lines that were only “receiving” and “sending” commands, but left everything else intact in case it’s useful.

One thing I notice in the logs is that these tracks are referred to as trackIDs 4, 6 and 7.

TrackID 5 is only briefly mentioned here, but otherwise the logs move on to trackID 6:

This coincides with the information I provided in my original message in this thread:

In the original GitHub discussion URL that I posted at the beginning of this thread, I posted the full logs from Home Assistant’s side, where the track artwork URLs being received through these SetNextAVTransportURI calls is clearly incorrect.

We can actually remove Home Assistant from the testing equation — the problem is between Audirvana and the Wiim Pro. HA is just displaying the info that’s then sent to it by the Wiim, but the delayed cover art problem is also visible in the Wiim app on my iPhone.

The person who does the Wiim integration for HA was the one who originally helped me troubleshoot and determine the cause, back in June. Here are the details of my testing that I sent to him:

At the bottom of his reply you will see the following, which explains what needs to be fixed on Audirvana’s end to correct the problem:

So this is squarely an Audirvana issue, for their devs:

Bug: On gapless/auto-advance track transitions, the DIDL-Lite metadata pushed to the UPnP/DLNA renderer (SetAVTransportURI / SetNextAVTransportURI) contains the previous track’s upnp:albumArtURI, while dc:title, upnp:artist, and upnp:album are correct for the new track. The art URI lags by exactly one track. Manually skipping re-sends correct metadata, so it’s specific to the pre-buffered next-track path. Result: UPnP renderers display cover art one track behind. (Confirmed with Qobuz sources; the advertised albumArtURI is byte-identical to the prior track’s cover.)

If they fix the metadata, the art will track correctly with no change needed on our side.

The short version:

On gapless/auto-advance track transitions, the DIDL-Lite metadata pushed to the UPnP/DLNA renderer (SetAVTransportURI / SetNextAVTransportURI) contains the previous track’s upnp:albumArtURI

Humm, I’m very sorry about this situation here, but on my end, I don’t have the issue with the WiiM app installed on my Mac. I played a Qobuz playlist and got the cover changing from one track to another. I then can’t quite understand the differences we have here. Except that I’m using the WiiM Mini with fw V4.6.819436 and not the WiiM Pro, I don’t see a difference in our setup.
