Interruptions Playing Radio Stations

Using Audirvana on a Macbook. Cannot consistently play stations; there are interruptions, and occasionally the blue screen of death requires computer restart.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hello @DWR,

Can you send us a copy of the “Debug Info” when you have this issue? You can get it in Audirvana Settings>My account

Note: By clicking on the Debug Info button, Audirvana automatically copies all its content, all you have to do is paste it in response to this message

Thank you very much. Last night, when I was having these problems, I checked my Internet speed, and it was down to about 50+ Mbs (it should be 100 Mbs). This morning, I was able to play all the stations I selected without problems, and the speed was about 95 Mbps.

Is it possible that the Internet speed is responsible for these problems? I would have thought even 50 Mbps would be more than enough. I had always believed that Internet radio stations consumed very little bandwidth.

By the way, I used to be a Roon subscriber, but I could never get an answer to my questions from their community forum. This is very much better. Appreciate it.

It’s not about speed. It could be an indication that you were experiencing connectivity problems.

By connectivity problems, are you suggesting that I was intermittently losing the connection to the ISP?

Thanks

Maybe, or because of connectivity problems your internet speed was fluctuating from far below 50 Mbps to above 50 Mbps and that can cause interruptions in sound as well.

Yep, exactly that.

I’m going to treat this as an ISP issue, and will keep an eye on it. There is plenty of reason to suspect the ISP here. We have 5G, but our rural provider is fairly clueless.

Thanks for the help!

Make a ping test. In Windows is something like:

Run - cmd

ping google.com -t

If the returned lines shows no packet loss and fluctuations this means is a stable connection. Also take a look at the time - should be less than 50 ms on most local/european nodes. Also the signal strenght - it’s a mobile connection as you said so less quality than a fixed/wired connection. Contact your ISP if problems persists. And check with other players too. If with other players you have no problems with radios post the “Debug Info” here as Antoine said. Don’t forget to edit the post after pasting and delete your email address.

Radio playing fine at the moment, with a Speedtest of 75 Mbps, and these stats from pings:

100 packets transmitted, 100 packets received, 0.0% packet loss

round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 40.185/70.383/311.353/48.003 ms

Huge variation in ping time, but this does not seem to be affecting performance.

I do recall there was a huge CPU load from the mds process when performance was bad.

Thanks for the help.

Radio performance so bad tonight nothing would play. Speedtest showed about 72 Mbps, ping results were:

100 packets transmitted, 100 packets received, 0.0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 38.923/62.560/182.474/26.535 ms
Macbook activity monitor showed CPU usage to be trivial among the processes. However, Audirvana memory use was about 400 MB, with kernel task at 450 and Window Server at 800 MB, Audirvana threads were 80, and kernel task as 230. Nothing else looked unusual.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Rebooted, shut down Chrome and Apple Mail, essentially tried to run Audirvana without anything else going. Similar ping results and activity monitor looked about the same. Debug info:

Do you have this issue only if you use your Ayre QX-5 as selected output? Do you have this with the Macbook speakers?

Yes, same issue with internal Macbook speakers.
