Is Audirvana Origin bit-perfect?

Is Audirvana Origin bit-perfect? (Depending on the settings of course.)

Paul

In short yes.

From the website……….

Audirvāna transmits intact data to the audio device (bit-perfect) following the shortest possible path. To do this it has direct and exclusive access to the device that bypasses the internal audio mixer, thus avoiding sound events from other apps and unwanted alterations to the audio format of your music.

On the question that the audio settings when playing shows a 64 bit conversion ( response from Andy L to a previous similar question)………

It does not ‘decode’ the bits to a 64 bit space. The bits (16, 24 or 32) are simply put in a 64 bit container and padded with zero’s. This is done because the architecture of the computer is also natively 64 bits. It is simply the fastest and most efficient way to do it.

Think of 64 bit as a large box with size 64. If you put size 16, 24 or 32 in the box it will all fit and not change if you get them out off the box. No conversion takes place, so, in this respect it is still bit perfect.

Yes, this doesn’t change the data any more than writing 1 as 1.00000000 changes the quantity.
