Is there Professional Help from Audirvana

I am using Roon and it is very buggy, at least with my Mac IOS set up. There is no help desk, only a community that sometimes helps, but not always. I’m getting tired of it.

I have Audirvana Studio that I just use to play music files on my laptop. It is my Plan B when Roon isn’t functioning.

Before going into a total commitment with Audirvana, which will probably involve hardware purchasing, does Audivana have a. professional help staff or is it run like Room - a community of helpful people who may or may not be experts?

Thanks for any answers.

There is technical support.

You will find there is both… An Audirvāna support system and the advice and insights from experienced users that draw their individual insights and opinions from a myriad of system configurations and playback scenarios and historical acumen from years of working with digital-audio technologies… A good example of an experienced user is @reddog1.

You will probably be disappointed. If you don’t get Roon stable, and you don’t know why, it is hard to imagine how you would fair with Audirvana or any other 3rd party player for that matter.

Can you tell a bit more about your setup?

Hi

I have switched from Roon to Audirvava - the tech help is better than Roon
But I have had several crashes today and the META data is flaky to say the least, but the sound is really good. I have subscribed but given up on Meta and just use the File view - which is pretty good when it don’t crash

I still feel I made the right choice

This behavior described above is not the general experience with the majority of Audirvāna users…Whatever is going on with your system set-up and configuration must be scrutinized…
Please link your thread relating to this playback behavior.

Others have already reacted to the support from Audirvãna, which is even available here in the community as the devs are around from time to time.
I was wondering why you say that a switch to Audirvãna would also mean a hardware purchase. You already have Audirvãna Studio running from what I understand.

The professional help staff (@Antoine and @Damien ) are also present on this forum (and read/react to posts). If you want direct help from Audirvana support you can always send a mail to [email protected] . My experience with support is quite good (adequate and timely reaction during office hours). There are also a lot of knowledgeable forum members on this forum very capable of answering questions.

Thanks to everyone who responded.

I use two Bluesound Nodes as Roon outputs and they don’t show up as outputs under Audirvana. But I haven’t yet spend the time to check that out to see if they can work with Audirvana. That’s why I guessed I may have to purchase hardware to get compatible streamers for Audirvana.

Thanks for your response.

My setup is very “off the shelf.” Nothing uncommon. I use a Mac mini as my Roon Core (the music server); my Roon endpoints (audio outputs) are my Apple devices, KEF wireless speakers, Bluesound Node streamers, and a Cambridge Audio streamer.

All my audio outputs disappeared from the Roon software with the exception of the speakers in my Mac mini that hosts the Roon Core. Playing music thru the Mac mini speakers is not very satisfying.

I’m still waiting for a solution from the Roon community.

Now I understand. Those Node streamers don’t support Airplay I guess, as they are from an earlier generation?
If so, then you’d need newer versions of the Node (N132 maybe?) or another device.

If the devices disappeared, was that after you updated MacOs on the Mac Mini to the latest version?

Please paste your debug information report here in this thread, so folks can help the best possible… It is found here… Settings–> My Account–> Help–> Debug info
Please also include a more detailed description of your network configuration topology (wired, wireless, components, etc.)

I would hazard a guess that the OP is running macOS 15.x and is suffering from the local network device access bug present in macOS 15. It impacts both Roon and Audirvana as third party apps. Apple music does not suffer this bug as all Apple inbuilt apps are not subject to the local network access permissions subsystem. However until he posts his debug info we are just speculating.

The thread of “Settings → My Account → Help → Debug info” does not exist in the Roon desktop version. In fact, you can’t even go to the second step as My Account only leads to billing information, etc. and no link to Help.

I think this problem with Roon did not happen when I updated my IOS. Several people suggested going into my IOS and to ensure Roon has permission to use my LAN. I did that twice and it did not solve my issue.

With one exception, all my equipment for using Roon is wired with ethernet. The Core and all Endpoints are wired. The only exception is the KEF wireless speakers and those show up as an audio output under Audirvana. So they are visible to my network, but they don’t show up under Roon.

I’m late responding to these things as I’m on a work deadline and music is my hobby, not my job. That’s not to say I don’t appreciate all the responses to my original post. I will continue to read them. And try solutions.

Roon tech help finally responded - not with an answer but with lots of questions. I’m still open to ditching Roon and using Audirvana for all my music listening.

I believe @Agoldnear is referring to the debug info in Audirvana, as opposed to Roon.

Audirvana is run on my MacBookPro. That is running macOS 14.6.1. It works fine and I can play music thru the outputs that meet Audirvana’s requirement. These are everything I have except the Bluesound Nodes - the DAC streamers. I have no issues with Audirvana.

The Core of Roon is running on a Mac mini that is macOS 15.1.1. That is where I lost identification of all my output devices except the Mac mini speakers. I have given Roon permissions on the Mac mini to be on my LAN, but that does nothing. Alas, I’m still waiting a solution from the Roon Community.

Just for information, my experience of Roon on macOS 15 the access to local network devices is lost after a reboot or sleep. So when enabling access in macOS it loses access again after a reboot or sleep. When going back to privacy&settings/local network the toggles for Roon are on but I have to toggle access off and then back on before Roon will regain access to local network endpoints.

This is not to my mind a Roon issue but macOS so Roon will struggle to find a work around. I know this to be true as I do not have to toggle the Roon access off/on or (on my main machine) Audirvana to regain access. I can toggle off and back on any of the apps present in the local network access pane (in my case Capture One or Cyberduck) and local network access is restored for all. It seems like the local network subsystem crashes or freezes on a reboot and any of the apps requiring permission can be toggled to restore the access for all.

There does on Roon seem to be several other issues with macOS 15 judging by forum posts but as I use Roon rarely (it is on a test machine I have) I only have seen the local network permissions bug.

Hmm. Having reactived my Audirvana subscription (3 year Black Friday deal) I’ve done some digging around my setups.

Roon here sees everything in my home including both streamers (Cambridge Audio CXN V2 and a Bluesound Node X). However on my Windows NUC Audirvana only sees the CXN as either a Chromecast or UPNP device. The Node X doesn’t show up. As it doesn’t support either UPNP nor Chromecast. AirPlay should still work though when on a Mac.

When it comes to my Roon Server which is installed on my M1 MacBook Pro running on the latest MacOS 15 Seqoia. I have to reboot the Mac everytime Roon decides to update itself, otherwise it won’t see any of the endpoints apart from the directly connected iFi Zen DAC V2.

You have a set up very close to mine. I have the Cambridge Audio CXN 2 and two Bluesound Node X. My Core is on a new MAC mini.

I have an M1 chip MacBookPro that I had thought about using for my Core, but that would mean keeping it on all day as I listen to music all day in various rooms and I’d have to attach the SSD hard drive to it that holds my music files. I don’t have enough memory on my laptop. All that seems like a problem of the privileged classes, but I’d still prefer it if the Core worked on my Mac mini as that is only used for the Roon core.

Still no answers from Roon technical support. Maybe they were on vacation.
